La Quemada Ruins

La Quemada is a set of ruins and a pyramid 45 minutes outside Zacatecas. They are not as spectacular as some of the ruins in southeast Mexico but they are mysterious because nobody is sure about their origins. There is controversy as to the culture that inhabited them and for what purpose. We spent the day wandering around them and enjoying a beautiful day.

I spent the 10th with John UK James Australia and Tomas Switzerland hiking up the Cerra de la Bufa taking the teleferico down and touring the mine. They even gave us hard hats for the mine tour. Que Padre. On the way back I got some photos of the people gathering in one of the plazas for a clown and comedy show. This happens every evening. A really lovely city.

Zacatecas Mexico

I was on a total of four buses to get from Real de Catorce to Zacatecas. I arrived there a little after 9pm and the town looked amazing at night. Luckily the hostal Hostal Villa Colonial had some open beds. 9 a night with an amazing view of the whole town. Zacatecas has one of the coolest cathedrals in all of Mexico a lot of museums and a cable car teleferico that takes you to the top

My friends Geoff and Jasper and I had a fun time in Zacatecas. One of the highlights was a trip into La Mina Eden which operated as a silver mine from 1586 to 1960. We had tried to go to the famous discotheque in the mine the night before but Jasper was wearing shorts so we couldn't get in. That was OK though because I think all three of us were a little tired after following around a tambo

The Pink City

After over a month in Mexico we are now officially sick of the buses. Always with movies being played but often competing with the drivers radio. And frequently we are arriving at our destination before the movie is finished. Hmm.Zacatecas is set in the hills at around 2500 meters but it was surprisingly warm. We stayed at the Hotel Condesa which was quite pleasant. Unlike Guadalajara this town ha

You Have to Love the Name of this State and City...

The last stop Zacatecas couldn't have been any better. This was one of our favorite cities in Mexico and also a favorite by many others as it is a Unesco World Heritage site. The state of Zacateces is actually one of Mexico's largest but smallest in population. The city of Zacatecas has an altitude of 2445m which is 5m higher than Mexico City which makes for some hot days and cold nights

I arrived in Zacatecas after a 9 hour bus ride which was supposed to take only 5 hours I guess I better get used to Mexican time. I arrived at about 9 PM and it was pouring rain once again while I was looking for somewhere to stay. After about an hour of looking for a place I stumbled upon Hostel Villa Cononial which would become my home for the next three nights. The hostel was an amazing b

After leaving Cuatro Cienegas I arrived in Monterrey at 8 PM on Sunday night. All I did there was eat ride the Metrorrey Monterreys light rail system and sleep before leaving the next morning at 730 AM so I cant say much about Monterrey. The downtown area by the plaza Zaragoza was a lot nicer than the area I stayed in around the bus station but other than that I dont have much.Aft

The cathedral in Z is considered one of Mexicorsquos most magnificent. Because of its

First of all we were travelling from Chihuahua down south to Zacatecas which was to take 10 to 12 hours by bus. Pretty good ride we thought because we managed to get some sleep and there was plenty of seats to relax. The bus driver was well aware that I didnt speak a great deal of Spanish when we stopped at some point I

Even the guide book said that Divisadero was the only place that you could actually see the canyon so I was a little worried when I boarded the train in Creel that the journey wouldnrsquot meet my expectations.
