The long bus ride.....

We started the day out by having a roaming breakfast. We went to the Coffee Right to get a cup of coffee kind of like Tim Horton's. The cheapest place to get coffee. Filtered coffee is1.60E for a small cup. We then went to this great bakery around our hotel and had a muffin I don't know what kind. We also stopped at the grocery store and got 2 bananas. There are so many bakeries here it

Ancient Ruins

On Monday we went to the Acropolis. This area is composed of many different ruins such as the Parthenon and the Theatre of Epidavros. You can see shows in this theatre but we were too early in the season. All of the ruins are being rebuilt which is kind of a letdown. Scoffolding is all over the buildings. The Greek government is repairing and replacing areas that have crumbled. We t

Day 4 Santorini Day 2

After walking about a mile to get 2 capuccinos for breakfast I asked Poppy to call for the 4wheeler. About 10 minutes later I was getting the low down on 4wheelers then went back to pick up Manoli. We headed out about 930am... two old folks on a 4wheeler Along the way we stopped at the Santos Winery just outside Pyrgos and took the tour. Very interesting and only 3 Euros for both of us.
Day 3 Athens to Santorini

Woke up pretty much on time and headed for the port. Arriving early we had capuccinos at a cafe across from the port and decided to buy lunch there too. A couple of pies greek sandwiches at 1.70 and 1.90 each. We'd been told food was expensive on the ferry but it turned out we could have bought the same sort of food onboard for just a bit more and they would have been still warm. Oh well l

My trip to Athens began on Saturday May 10th Stephanie and I left Indy to go to Philly to connect our flight to Athens. Security wasn't a problem and we got right through with no problems The problem however was that there was a greek family on our flight who had young children who were screaming before we even got on the plane When we got on we were sitting in the seat in front of them Ne

After a long restless night we went downstairs to wait for our walking tour. At 9am the lady told us the guide had called and wasn't coming so she refunded our money gave us a map and some information to take the tour ourselves. So off we went to see the Acropolis. We decided to check out Hadrian's Library and buy a combo ticket for 6 Euros to see the Acropolis and other sights. Lo and behol

First full day in Greece and it was busy. We went to the Monastiraki Market where you can get anything from furniture to fruit. Too bad we couldn't bring back a couple of antique tables We did find a 'few' things to buy. We went to the poet sandal maker. He is famous for his greek sandals and had a story written about him in the Calgary Herald which he has posted in his window. The sto

We are back in Athens after 2 weeks. it feels like we've come home. the view of the Acropolis from the balcony still leaves us breathless. Last night we got in at 8 o'clock after the shortest flight in the world from Santorini. Honestly i've been speeding over speed bumps and stayed in the air longer. Our last day at Santorini was spent driving around catching up on places we hadn't seen. Basicall

Well we've arrived in Ios 3 days ago. We had the EARLIEST start in Crete but everything went smoothly and we landed in Ios at about 12.30. We were a bit worried about sorting out accomodation as we hadn't booked anywhere but we really didn't have a problem Within about 10 seconds of jumping off the boat we were surrounded by people showing us their rooms to hire. This time however I had the breakfast room to myself and the tour company picked me up right on time. We continued on picking people up from various hotels and I was a little worried as some of them had no luggage at all. What are they going to do f

Expecting the breakfast room to be empty at that hour I was quite surprised to find a large group of French eating. Later on as I waited outside my hotel the same group came out to wait for something presumably a tour. They left and I waited for my ride. Arthur Evans did Knossos and rebuilt stuff in the style he thought was most appropriate. As a result he restored areas as he felt they probably were 1600 BC.
