Kuala LumpurThe small colonial quarter around Merdeka Square and the adjacent enclaves of Chinatown and Brickfields can easily be explored on foot. It was on Merdeka Square Independence Square where independence of what was then Malaya was announced in 1957. The 100m tall flagpole commemorates the spot where the Malayan flag was hoisted for the first time. On the eastern side of the square stand

It was good to finally touch down after 14 hours stuck in a flying toilet roll that Air Asia pass of as a plane. Having one episode of the simpsons and a barely eatable chicken nugget was never going to smooth the passage into Asia. That said it was well worth it when we stepped off the plane and the heat hits you for the first time. It was 9pm pitch black and 33 degrees. And it just carried on ge

09The next morning we all decided to go to the Batu Caves. Glen was in charge of haggling for the taxis. They do not often want to use their meter in the cab because they donrsquot earn as much so you have to find a taxi that will turn on their meter. We all piled into two cabs we got in with Glen and showed us a few sights along the way. We turned up at the Batu Caves and gazed upon a huge go

The next morning we headed to the Belcherrsquos apartment. It is huge All the bedrooms have ensuites and the view is amazing. We will certainly be comfortable here for the next week. But I guess we need to lap it up while we can because it will get harder and accommodation will get dirty and uncomfortable. We all headed to the Batu Caves together. The Batu Caves are significant to the Hindirs

The phone rang at 700am for our wake up call. It was hard to get out of bed and you really donrsquot realise how important it is to have a window in your room until you donrsquot have one. We quickly packed and threw on the clothes that I washed last night in the shower. They were still quiet damp but it had a cooling effect when you stepped out into the Singapore heat. We caught a taxi to Qu

We jumped on a bus from Melaka to Kuala Lumpur KL. After 2 hours we arrived in the city but it took us another hour to negotiate the traffic and get to the bus station We had booked into the Attapsana Guest House in the Bukit Bintang area love that name of the city and it was a lovely quiet wee place. It was very basic and cost 12 UK pounds a night but was in a great location and the owner

Our flight out of KL would depart at 320 pm. Melody worked hard on the decision of where to spend our last night. Hotels near KL International Airport are expensive. Taxis from suburban hotels to the airport are expensive. We all wanted another full day and night in Singapore. An overnight train would cost us sleep and arrive too early. So she decided we would get up at 5 am cross the border ca

Hello againSo I left it a bit of a secret of where I was off to after Palau if you read the title already you can see that I went to Malaysia with a quick little stop in Brunei just to say I've been there. After spending a couple extra days in Manila I flew to Kota Kinabalu KK as its known as. It was a nice change from manic Manila to come to a place with roughly 200000 people. It was also m

Set off to Stansted at around dinnertime after yet more tears saying bye to family and friends. Everything went surprisingly smooth checked in with no problems and though the flight was delayed it was only by 20mins. The 13hr flight seemed quite short to me as amazingly I managed to sleep for most of it. Not so for Rob who had a squeaky seat p We got through passport control fine and I had my f

It has been a strange couple of days. We set off alone late at night from a windy rainy Stansted airtport 30 mins late. The last flight of the day from a deserted place like a scene from 28 days later. The flight was boring no films no tv but i managed to sleep 45 hrs Suse slept much longer it seems. On landing we got through customs with relative ease and found ourselves confused by all th

Irsquom definitely getting into the swing of the airline lifestyle now. Nearly every pen I have has got some obscure hotel logo on it and my notice board consists of many memos reminders phone numbers etc scrawled on napkins from the galleys.
