Tela

What hit me first about Tela was its obvious state of poverty. For a place advertised as the upandcoming tourist beach hot spot in Central America it needs a lot of work. Being the off season there wasn't enough people for a Garifuna tour. So I went for second best and tried the Garifuna Museum but soon found out the building was there but the museum didn't exist. When that fell through there

Here were are on the north coast of Honduras.... in the little town of Tela. Not much to this place really.... kinda small and pokey. Well most of the towns along the north coast of Honduras are just that. But one really feels as though they are off the beaten track when they are here... especially that of mainstream tourism. Actually even the backpacker trail seems to run a little thin in

I did a sufficient amount of thinking in Tela this weekend...Tela Glad to be back in San Pedro. Tela is extremely lovely but I'm still a little under the weather so the energy level was low. But it went much smoother than I expected. Remember the new couple They're still boring. But genuinely nice people. Cory and I talked about my patience with them and I decided I would make more of an effor

San pedro to Tela...

so we wake up in san pedro opting for a leisurely journey to utila rather than an aggressively early start that would allow us to catch the 930am ferry from la ceiba to utila. after all that travel from the day before we decide that the 400 ferry will work just fine especially since we wouldn't be diving until the following day anyway. and we can also hit tela a sleepy beachtown on the way

Our last evening in Antigua was spent with our new travelling companions 5 others plus a trip leader ie. the man whos going to book all the buses and sort all the hotels for us. That doesnt mean he holds our hands and shepherds us around and weve got plenty of time to do our own thing too. I was still not feeling too good so was straight to bed after dinner for an early start the next morning

Tela and Omoa

Tela and Omoa are located at Hundoras Bay not so much away from the Bay Islands. The water is nice especially at Omoa where it gets a green color due to the high vegitation. The beaches are covered with black sand. The trip itself especially between Omoa and Guatemala boarder is a very nice ride through Guatemalas rain forest. I would say the best nature and vegitation I have seen so far. Afte

Hello again One last post before we head out to dinner and some discos tonight. Well our stay in the Tela area has been interesting to say the least. We spent Wed. night at the Mango Inn which was a nice hostel in istelf but set off a really noisy street which thankfully quieted during a crazy thunderstorm but started up again at about 3 when the rain stopped. Ah well. We got up early and

Hi everybody. Well if you havent realized it yet were doing fine. The hurricane hit the NicaraguaHonduras border which is inhabited by small tribes people so it was probably the best place to hit in terms of population size. The islands were clear out of the way by the time we made it to the brewery go figure but it was great there anyway. The first day we went to the falls which was so

So here's try number twoTela is a small city on the North Coast of Honduras about 5 hours from Copan Ruinas. I went with Nicole a student I met at Escuela Ixbalanque a Spanish School in Copan. We stayed in a nice place on Playa El Zonte where Erika spent a week last summer. The waves were huge but Matt went boogie boarding anyway. We then moved on to Antigua where we got set up for Lanas arrival by plane in Guatemala City. I got to almost meet the judge as the

Tela didn't turn out to be as caribbean as we would have hoped it to be but another wild chaotic small honduran town.
