Arrived into tropical Kuala Lumpur staying in the centre of the bustling Chinatown district lined with streetstalls and markets and dining on seafood at an excellent Malaysian restaurant. Early the next morning took a coach up to the Cameron Highlands driving along steep roads lined with a huge panoply of election posters the majority depicting the blue scales of the incumbent Barisan Nasiona

Today after another breakfast of Nasi Lemak and Maher feeling a little under the weather maybe a cold from the drop in temperatures from KL to Cameron Highland we were picked up at 08.45 for our 12 day tour. We first visited the butterfly farm where there were some of the most beautiful and biggest species of butterfly I have ever seen along with an array of other animals from leaf frog to sco

The next part of our journey was meant to be a quick stopover in Kuala Lumpur then a flight back to the Philippines to enjoy a further 3 weeks there. Sadly while we were in KL we received news that Sophies grandfather had passed away at the great age of 98 so plans were quickly adjusted in order to fly home for the funeral. This would mean that we would have to forego our time in the Philippine

We set out on an afternoon tour of the Cameron Highlands costing 50RM each. We started at the Mossy Forest on Gunung Brinchang. We walked through the mosscovered trees and mossformed walkways looking at cuplike pitcher plants and caking our shoes in mud. None of us slipped over thank goodness although there were a few nearmisses the guide gave us leaves which are used in Tiger Balm told

We laid in late then bummed around until our bus picked us up at 230pm. We had the luxury of being the only four passengers on the minibus all the way to the Cameron Highlands. We arrived at Bringchang39s Hotel Rainbow around 9pm and after resting for a bit Sophie and I headed out for food. We went to KFC and were disgusted at how rudely we were treated by the staff. They originally told us

After leaving the jungle we headed for the East Coast of Malaysia to Cherating. Cherating is a beautiful quiet fishing village most notable for serving up fantastic Seafood and attracting surfers during monsoon season. As I had done something to my knee and . . .
I crossed the country to the East coast and ferried to the island of Pulau Tiomin. Some footage of it is claimed to have been filmed here for South Pacific 1958. Well for me it has been spoiled. If you were going to the super resorts at super prices I am sure it is lovely. Many young people come to get their PADI open water certificates I would tell them to go to Tobago it was nicer there

The journey into the Cameron Highlands was far from relaxing and included numerous risky overtaking manoeuvres and an example of what can happen if it goes wrong we passed the aftermath of a headon collision between a van and a lorry but we made it unscathed to the region39s main centre Tanah Rata. Despite being 5 degrees north of the equator and a third of the way round the globe I felt

Should we follow her advice or that of Trip Advisor which didn39t mention any danger Dean reasoned that it couldn39t be worse than the Black Spur so we opted for the old road. The drive started with Eleanor improving her vocabulary most noticeably the skill of using

A quick 2h bus ride later and I was in Tanah Rata one of the townships of the Cameron Highlands. This area was established as a hill station by the British during the colonial days and to this day preserves its holiday retreat feel with the everpleasantly cool climate and fresh mountain air. It39s certainly no hidden gem though and has entertained many a vacationeer for the better half o

After a couple of minutes along side of a river with pretty neat waterfalls easy we started to climb and the path got narrower as the forest vegetat

On our penultimate evening in the Taman Negara we decided to lash out and buy in to a safari well at least it was called a night safari. What it turned out to be was a drive around one of the local palm oil plantations in the dark sat on the roof of a land rover with the guide casting the beam from a high powered torch into the trees. Such a venture couldn39t take place in the national park s
