Well Kosovo is something special let me tell you I had left my plans open a bit to check out the small war torn country now that it has become its own state. I Arrived in Prishtina walked along Bill Clinton Blvd.which is the main Road then tried to find something touristy to do.. Well that was my first mistake there is nothing for tourist to do there other then take photos of UN trucksso

Howdy Y'all Here are some pictures from the celebrations I took part in during the days that Kosovo Declared their independence. It was pretty surreal. I was very far away from any of the reported problems.Ted

I am adjusting to the way of life here well. I going to attempt to watch American Football this evening. Kick off isn't for another 3 hours or so. My list

I am putting pictures of food up. These were all taken at one of the best restaurants in Prishtina. It is the place people go to be seen. It was awesome And the food I am told is as traditional as I'll get in the city.

Today is voting Day I found that out while getting my hair cut the results will be announced on Monday which is when I thought the voting took place. It will also explain the large number of News Military Police UN EU and OSCE vehicles around Prishtina today I guess there was a small uprising near the Serbian border. Oh well here are some pictures of the city and of a Byrek Bureck.

Here are some pictures of food that have been requested. This is all food from my kitchen except the beer and wine of course that I borrowed from another faculty member....For the record when I input where I am I have to put Serbia as the country in order for Kosovo to show up legally speaking it still is within Serbia but NO one here thinks of it as Serbia you have to cross through custo

I made it to Kosovo this is a very interesting place. A bit surreal sometimes seeing UN and different assorted military vehicles driving around. The two biggest pedestrian rules I need to remind myself of are....as a pedestrian most cab drivers see me as a slow moving target and secondly do not step on any manhole covers grates etc. The jet lag has me all confused I've slept alot but have sl

How Slow Can You Go

We packed up our bags and decided to have breakfast despite us being on the brink of checkout time. We had toast to use up which we did admirably and Rob had cereal. We were late for checkout but it didn't matter because the professor wasn't there anyway. We attempted to ask the man at reception if we could leave our bags in our room however he didn't speak English and was particularly unhelpful.

Instead of getting up at nine and going the forty minutes walk to the bus station and then traveling two hours to a little town called Prizren followed by several hours walking round the medieval capital of 'Old Serbia' in the freezing snow we stayed in bed. At about 10 I was rudely woken by the TV turning back on after another power cut but hid back under the sheets to protect myself from the s

Due to the powercuts through the night and first thing this morning the room wasn't quite as warm as we would have liked. When we did get up I glanced out of the window and saw that it had been snowing.Walking into town was rather nice because it was gently snowing and it was beautifully crisp. The snow was on the rooftops etc but there wasn't much on the ground so it was easy to walk around. We

The UNEventful Day

We dragged ourselves out of bed half an hour after the other people in our dorm got up. We were both awake but neither of us wanted to face the coldness. Rob polished off enough toast for both of us and then we went out to get money from the cash machine to pay for the hostel. We arrived at the bus station to find that the times we had been given were wrong and that there was an earlier bus than th

Hi EverybodyWhen you are in this part of the world you have to do what the natives do. We have lots of places that we want to visit. The problem is that it is difficult to travel between them. We have been to many travel agencies trying to get airline tickets. They either tell us that they are not available they don't book plane tickets or some other reason. The rental car is out for vari

Serbia Kosovo

We were all planned to head onto Albania after Montenegro but we have both become increasingly fascinated by the former Yugoslav republics and so we switched routes and headed up to Serbia to hear the other side of the story. In one of the books Irsquove been reading it says that during the nineties journalists used to call Serbia lsquoMordorrsquo though that was due to good old evil lord

7 NovemberFiona's camera did not turn up but we collected the police report at 3.00 pm. We arrived at the station earlier and were asked to come back in the afternoon. We spent a few of our extra hours in Sarajevo retaking lost photos on Marcus' film camera sipping Bosnian coffee and trying to relax. We came across a decaying military helicopter on the edge of an unkept park near the Holiday I

Every few minutes I'd wake up at the impact of my head falling uncontrollibly forward. I'd be covered in a pool of sweat. And that Turkish pop music which sounds like a cross between the call to prayer and 'Maniac 2001' still blasting away. This is 2.30 am on the bus to Kosovo. We had left Sarajevo on an earlier cheaper bus than intended but one that required us to make a onehour stop
