Suzy stayed put on the Camping Solitudo watching the cruise ships all day.We didnt have a bad nights sleep but impressions of the campsite hadnt improved overnight. It is the only one within striking distance of Dubrovnik but its not the most interesting. But we were not here to see the campsite but to see what is known as the Pearl of the Adriatic.
DiversionLadies and Gentlemen said the raspy voice from the flight deck. This is your captain speaking. Due to high winds at Dubrovnik Airport we have no choice but to divert to Split. Coaches will be available to take you onwards to Dubrovnik. Sorry for the inconvenience.I rolled my eyes at Michael who nodded in acceptance. Bloody hell I said. So much for saving time by going by plane.

Day 8 Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik is one of the most poplular tourist attractions in the medditeranean. The city is enclosed by a wall that goes around the rocky coast. The city is known for it39s beautiful architecture and sculpural detail. In the middle ages it was the state to rival Venice. Here I will learn about the architecture of the city and the importance it has to croatia as a prominent tourist attraction.

Day 7 Lokrum Island

I will travel to Lokrum Island by boet. There I will enjoy the beauty of the island and the serenity of the small quiet island. I will visit the botanical gardens showcasing all of croatia39s native flowers and plants. Lokrum Island also has a history of being the island of kings. Around 1000 AD Richard the Lionheart shipwreked there and built a monastery and an abbey.

Day 24 Monday 6th MarchThe weather would be an important factor in deciding whether to hitchhike from Dubrovnik and unfortunately it was raining. We decided to head for the road and see what happens. Whilst walking through the centre we met a couple of English lads heading south and a large group of English heading home after finishing a boat tour. Michael tried hitching but with absolutely no

Day 23 Sunday 5th MarchA good night39s sleep. The room looked out over some palm trees and an orange tree but alas this scene was not reflected in today39s weather cloudy overcast and threatening. First stop of the day was a pastry shop for a coffee and two delicious cakes. Tony was leaving for Athens today. We walked to the harbour and then along a oneway street in search of main road

We have heard a lot about Dubrovnik and how beautiful it is and everyone was right it was just gorgeous. It is an historic and beautifully picturesque town known mainly as a major tourist resort facing the sea at the base of the rugged limestone mountains. Its medieval double walls and fortifications make you feel as though you have stepped back in time. For the history buffs it was founded in

There is not really to much to say about life at the Villa. Its pretty much 10 days of same old same old but its a tough life that someone has to do once in a while. So where is the villa Well Omis is only about 25 30 km South of Split but it is about a 45 minute drive. Continue through Omis for about another 8 to 10 km and the highway passes through the village of Stanici

DubrovnikI had booked my accomodation through a new travellers website and was surprised yhe owner offered to pick me up from the Dubrovnik port. Especially as I had only paid 15 for a single private bedroom with shared bathroom and kitchen. We arrived to the spacious 3 bedroom house which is situated on the very top of the hill surrounding Dubrovnik and we sat down on the outside balcony which

After arriving in Dubrovnik we made our way to an apartment which had a beautiful view over the Old Town of Dubrovnik. We decided to stay out of the old town area in Dubrovnik as the prices of dorm rooms in the old town area were almost double the price of apartments which were only 10minutes away. It turned out to be a great decision our room was really nice with a balcony and we turned out to b

It just occurred to me that for the first half of this trip we chose places with some pretty heavy recent histories Russia Estonia and Croatia. I can easily remember when massive changes happened that have dramatically shaped each country in the last twenty years or so. In Russia and Estonia it was pretty amazing to see and experience those changes through discussion with locals checking out

After another gut churning ride between Montenegro and Croatia it was to Dubrovnik to begin what I am considering the home stretch of the holiday. Which is sad but it turns out the Croation coast has quite the ability to cheer one up But first Dubrovnik. One of the bigger cities in Croatia but still not that big it was nice to arrive back in the country after the initial visit to the north a

K We were excited to get to Dubrovnik which is probably the bestknown destination in the Balkans. We were staying in a private room in Lapad or new Dubrovnik but were only a 10minute bus ride to the Old City henceforth referred to as Dubrovnik. Knowing that Dubrovnik is the major destination for coach tours and cruise ships we got up early to beat the crowds. Our guidebook told us tha
