On April 29th at about 8pm lsquoGuide Ramrsquo decided that it would be good to go off to the Negev Desert for a few days hike and start the Israeli Trail. So within a couple of hours all was packed and we headed down into Haifa to catch the night bus heading to Eilat which departed at 11.30pm. After five hours we arrived at our destination which was Timna. We started the hike with trepidat

I spontaneously decided to go to Eilat with three of Roees friends two weeks ago. We bought bustickets and left at midnight. The busride is five and a half hours from Haifa to Eilat. We arrived there very early in other words. Our first diving lesson started at 9 in that same morning. I first completed a one star diving class which allows me to dive down to 18 metres. The course lasted for five d

sustainable agriculture in the desert

How is it that one of the most extreme deserts in the world is able to also be the agricultural center of a country With the Arava valley losing more than a meter of water a year to evaporation and gaining less than five centimeters of rain per year it does not seem as if much should be able to grow. However the other day we visited the experimental orchards outside of the Kibbutz. The or

At about one thirty I went to the reef beach with Ruth Rafi and David and we rented some snorkel gear and took turns snorkeling over the reefs that are right at the shore line. They are incredible I saw yellow coral masses that probably w

Yesterday Tuesday June 2ndWe began the morning with a visit to the Bahai gardens in Haifa which were very beautiful. I do wish that we had had a bit more time there as it was lovely and very peaceful even in the middle of the city. We then shuffled back onto the bus and drove off.
We are now exactly one week away from flight from Cairo to Athens. Today we are sort of flying blind. As I explained to Joshua we have no idea where we will be sleeping the night or even what country we will be in. Depending on what happens with border crossings we might end the day in Jordan Israel or Egypt. After breakfast at the hotel we set off in a crew cab style pickup truck. Our driver
