Sitka

This day was the most amazing day for us. The boat could not dock into Sitka as the water there was too low. We met for the Sea Otters and Wildelife excursion into the RendezVous bar where we were given a sticker for our excusrion. We took a boat directly from the ship. There were 2 decks. The one at the top had an observation deck. The boat went out to sea for about 10 minutes. This is were we s

A new adventure to China

Today marks the countdown. Officially I will be in China in less than a week So exciting. I have a mess in my living room. Clothes meds and bags spread everywhere. It's been that way for a week or two now. I figure if I look at the stuff enough I'll be able to figure out exactly what will make the cut. Make it to China that is. The comfy neck pillow It takes up so much space... But I'll be f

Saturday July 26th Arose at 5am to catch the 800 ferry to Sitka. So TODAY the sun decides to shine in Juneau. Breakfasted on the dock where there are no generator rules and Mom and Mariko were carted directly to the elevator on the ferry while Anne drove on as one of the last boarders. Anne found that motor homes get special treatment extra boards to avoid bottoming out on the ramp. M

Hm.

It rained during the night as we found out in the morning as water poured off the tent when Dave opened the hatch. However we never heard the rain during the night. We also noticed we were sitting on the floor of the van with almost all the air gone out of the mattress as we got out of the van. Not a good sign. By the time we had breakfast and were ready to go the skies were just cloudy and

Five am came early this morning as I suppose it does every morning. We grabbed coffee at the campground office and headed to the Ferry Terminal about 5 miles away. Two hours before the ferry leaves you need to check in and get a lane assignment. There we sat in our lane number 5 until about 730 am.We are on the Fairweather today which is a highspeed catamaran ferry. It is quite nice and

What a great place Sitka turned out to be doubtless the gorgeous weather helped. The ship anchored off shore and we were taken to the dock on tenders aka the lifeboats. I figured if we had to use them for the real thing the food wouldn't be quite what we'd become used toAccording to Wikipedia The name Sitka derived from Sheetrsquok a contraction of the Tlingit name Shee At'ik means

We left Kona and said our goodbyes. Then we arrived in Honolulu around 7ish p.m. We had some Burger King aka BK for dinner. After getting some grub we walked around the airport. We went into this store can't remember what it was called but it had lots of makeup and perfume. Tasha Mary and Saulina went in there to try on some cool stuff and some good smelling perfume. Jen came furiously lo

Once upon a time I had to travel from Amsterdam to Seattle thru Detroit.

It all started on an early Friday morning in July. I had to check in at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol at 0700 AM where I had to pick my flight at 1000AM. It took off at 1030 AM so there was the first delay of 30 minutes. After a great flight with lots of turbulence I arrived in Detroit the Motor city. It was 1300 and my connecting flight to Seattle would go at 1530. But first I had to go thru c

Welcome to Sitka Alaska

We anchored off of Sitka in Sitka Sound at 8 A.M. this morning. Then we began tendering in as the saying goes. Tenders are the ship's smaller boats life boats that are used to transport passengers from ship to shore and back when there is no dock space or a dock large enough to handle large floating hotels like the Amsterdam. The tenders are operated by the Quartermaster. Quartermasters are e

Today was partly sunny with no rain and rather warm. Beautiful We got to Sitka AK on Baranof Island. Sitka is a small mostly fishing town. I think the local shop owners were a little dazed at the arrival of tourists. I ran into town to buy very expensive cigarettes from a machine at a smoky bar the only place in town that sold cigarettes batteries for my camera and postcards. Pam Mary

For our stop in Sitka we decided to do what is one of the most reasonably priced tour in the entire Alaska catalog the City Tour. Personally speaking the city tour is worth the price of admission in fact you get to see a lot and one would feel that another hour would be very well used. The City Tour conducted on a School Bus includes the Raptor Center a stop at the National Park a perfor

So we thought we would attend service there. However we didnrsquot realize it was two hours of standing. The decorative church is filled with silver and gold everything and is quite ornate.
