IRELAND IN WINTER 2.From Rosslare to Wicklow

2.From Rosslare to WicklowRosslare is a very small harbour built mainly for the ferry routes linked with the continent. It is situated at the southern tip of the east coast of Ireland. Behind it a large bay hides another harbour Wexford so that when you stand on the sandy hills of Rosslare you can see land streching around to the north. The coast is never in a straight line in Ireland I believe

And we are back to traveling We headed over to the Wicklow Mountains of Interior Ireland Those are great rolling green mountains with lakes in between them. The color of the lakes is almost a deep black due to the peat in them. They almost look like lakes of Guinness beer which I am sure some of you wouldn39t mind swimming in. My favorite lake was one in which the mountains proudly stood ove

Grand Tour of Ireland 2012 Day 5 Seaside Hike and Bray

We spent today at the seaside village of Bray on the eastern shores of Ireland. We took the hike along the coastal cliffs with the mountains rising on one side and the cold sea on the other. The day was spectacularly sunny and perfect for a hike. We walked casually along the trail while. We have both found our guilty pleasures here. Colby is crazy for chicken and stuffing sandwiches while I am a s

Well after a hectic few weeks my birthday appeared out of nowhere which seemed a bit scary yet another birthday The first half of the day was spent doing things like buying train tickets to Gatwick Airport positive moves towards my great weekend ahead and having every oddball come up to me and tell me all about their problems their missed anniversaries and lost loved ones. They were all ra

Today we left Dublin we figured we could probably have spent one more day there and seen everything but we were pretty excited to get touring. We picked up our rental car on the outskirts of Dublin a brand new dark red Citreon.
Last part of orientationSo on our very last few days of orientation my semester start up program took us on a trip to Glendalough and county Wicklow. Glendalough is a valley in between the Wicklow mountains known for its medieval monastic settlement. It was full of graves crosses and old monastery type things. Pretty much from the beginning of orientation everyone we told that we were going t

We'll start in Ireland first since we were there for around 3 weeks. There's bound to be something to talk about. We flew from Glasgow Scotland into Belfast in Northern Ireland.
Just spent the last week driving through th south of Ireland. So here is the first leg. After a scary landing in windy Dublin we jumped in our hire car which was upgraded to a very cool Nissan something and headed to The Wicklow Mountains. We stayed in the middle of nowhere at a great family run hostel called Mountain view. Fresh air and drinking water from the local spring. Hospitality was fab.

On Wednesday we decided to go out of the Dublin area and see the countryside. I had read a lot about a monastery called Glendalough that was founded by St. Kevin in the 7th Century. At one point it was one of the major religious centers in Ireland. We paid 20 Euros to take a bus out to the site and got to spend 3.5 hours there. It was easily a place that I could spend a few days in. It lies i

THE WICKLOW WAYThe Wicklow Way is Irelands most popular way marked trail winding over 100 kilometres through the high heather hills south of Dublin. Its proximity to the city means that at its northern end at least it gets a fair amount of traffic. That said as its Ireland its still very quiet and you can walk for miles without meeting more than a handful of fellow travellers. In the
