New Year at Club Med

I happened on a great deal from Club Med for a ski week at their club at Leysin Switzerland where the kids were free and Linda and I were half price. So from Saturday December 30 1989 through Saturday 6 January 1990 I spent a week skiing while Tamara and Rosanna participated in the children39s club that included some very elementary bunny slope skiing and Linda watched Will who was too

Finally Found Prafunduz

Today I actually had to work for an hour We had a bbq with the winter staff here at Leysin and then went on a hike. We planned on hiking partway to Bernuse but found signs to Prafunduz the trail that we backed off of the other day because of the swarming bugs. This way however was pretty open paths so we decided to try again. Although it was a fairly steep climb up the mountain we we

Hike up Les Crevasse

I went on my first hike this afternoon. It was not quite as intense as last year when I had to get rescued off Mt. Bernuse. This was a steep rocky trail that led over to an amazing view of Lake Geneva. We attempted to hike Prafunda as well and ended up turning back after 10 minutes since the bugs were bascially swarming around us. As I have spent the last 3 days tanning on the rooftop of our

Hiking Mt. Berneuse ... And the Rescue Team

Today was our last day of class. In the afternoon we decided to hike the 2048 meters up to Mt. Berneuse. This was all fine until the off roading attempt. I LOVE rock climbing but as I am the smallest and quickest I was up in front scaling rocks plowing through vegetation finding my chi as I was instructed to do by my friend Cassie. In fact I thought I was in some Climbing Mt. Everest

An Evening on the Mountain

The night is too beautiful to pass up the opportunity to share the views. The mountains have such a personality of their own And this school has an interesting history as well ... years ago the buildings were used as a hospital for tuberculosis patients as doctors thought the proximity to the sun would help cure them. Evidently many people passed away in these very buildings. The kids of co

Berneuse I Touched A Cloud and the Doctor is DEAD

Last night my friend Cassie finally arrived. I took the drive down the mountain and picked her up. We had some local wine and turned in for the first real day of classes. After class Marc and I decided to explore the mountain in the car Our intention was to find a lovely grassy knoll and spend the afternoon lying in the sun. Well bothered by constant bees we drove a bit further and decide

First Days In Switzerland

So I have been here a bit over 24 hours now and completely forgot how amazing this town is. I just start singing It's a Small World immediately. Last night I had dinner with Miles Laurie and Marc and we drank some wine. I slept for about 12 hours and for some reason just could not get my act together. Thank goodness the kids were all delayed so we did not start class today. As I was trying

Time in Leysin coming to a close

Last chance for a true travelblog as I'm returning to the States soon. So it seems like an entry highlighting my 2 months in Switzerland is in order. It has been amazing to spend time in a quiet cozy tightknit mountain village. It's a place a little separated from the rest of the world where your main focus is about what is right in front of you the people the nature and you. No politics
