Thailand can mean a lot of things to a lot of people some want the hustle and bustle of Bangkok some the neon lights of Phuket for me i wanted white sand beaches with a laid back way of life which is exactly what we found here.Railay is a little beach seperated into three parts for the backpackers climbers and honeymooners and appeared to be a little Thai rasta community completely cut off t

Railay Krabi Province

After our wild partying on Ko PhaNgan we decided that we would head for the beautiful scenic Railay just 45 minutes in a long tail boat from the main land Krabi. But before we could get to Railay we had some more travelling to do this time in the form of boat bus. Also another reason we needed to leave Ko PhaNgan was because a storm had hit the island which now seems to be a regula

The entrance to Railay Beach is a gateway to tropical heaven. The only way to get here is by longboat and so we arrived at dusk on a weighted down longboat filled with backpackers on October 20th. A sliver of land guarded by giant limestone cliffs with beachfront real estate on all sides. Sunset gazers and rock climbers toast one another from seat cushions on makeshift bamboo decks overlooking

And we're off on a van to a pier to a boat for a 45 minute boat ride to Railay. Sea Sick meds check We ended up sitting at the front of the boat staring at the amazing view all around. We stopped a few places on the way and arrived at Au Nang. From there we took a local's long tail boat to Railay West beach. We got there and it was paradise. Huge rocks protruding from the water hardly any tour

Railay

We both decided there wasnrsquot much more to explore in Aonang and so headed for a beach called Raily. The guide book recommended Raily for its stunning sunset and its rock climbing. The water was too choppy so get into a long tail boat on the beach so those of us waiting jumped into a van and headed for what they called a lsquoportrsquo. This was most defiantly NOT a port it was a walk

For the last week we have been based in Krabi province on the Andaman coast in the South of Thailand. Sun sea and sand have been the main theme of the week with lots of relaxation. A welcome break after 5 weeks on the road. Railay Our first point of call was Railay Island. Getting there was the usual facade. Little long tail boat rough waters and once again a wet bum However the boat journey w

5 June Friday The weather wasbetter today so I headed to Pranang Beach to get some better pictures of a sunny beach. Will had suffered sunburn from our day of snorkeling at Phi Phi so spent most of the day in our room. I spent most of the morning there and then headed back for a dip in the pool before lunch.Perhaps this is a good time to talk about some of the people I met. The more intere

Travel to and time at Railay Beach

2 June Tuesday My spreadsheet showed a 1020 AM departure from Bangkok to Krabi so right after breakfast we took a taxi to the airport. When we approached the ticket counter I was informed that we were too early to check in for the 145 PM flight to which I responded that I was booked on the 1020 AM flight. Apparently my original intention was to take the earlier flight but by the time

A voyage down south

Next stop was Railay Beach so we hopped on the night train to Surit Thani which felt a bit like the Harry Potter knight bus with crazy characters roaming up and down the aisles and beds appearing from nowhere. Thought that I'd mastered the art of squat toilets but the jostles and jerks of the train took this to a whole new level. We fell asleep in the smog of the city and woke up to palm trees

So.
