Yesterday we did manage to get to a water park. Bill and Wayne did not join us because they had been up late gambling and drinking the night before and were too tired. So it was just the girls and the kids.We were a little unsure about the currency in Cyprus as I donrsquot think they have totally thrown away their old currency in favour of the Euro. I had nothing to fear the taxirsquos

Yesterday we were in Rhodes Greece. I stayed at Adventure Ocean till about noon. In town we wanted to go see the Palace of the Grand Masters but it was closed because of recent damage. Mom got us ice cream for lunch then we wandered around town for about one hour and a half. On our way back to the cruise ship we stopped and had a gyro. A gyro is a pita wrapped around chicken onions and to

An Ode to CyprusThe car engine starts and we journeyed into the night. No room for error as we drove not on the right.Left turns felt like right the stick a wheel.Learn quickly or crash a demanding deal.We brake we shift we scream we laugh. We stopped at a gas station but the tank was at half.Inconspicuously parked our little Ford became home.Captured by sleep we could no longer roam.Four hou

Im just testing this out....was never a big fan of the whole bloggy thing but I reckon it beats sending numerous tailored emails to people. Cyprus is nice. Im enjoying myself. Halloumi rocks.
Hedonic Halloumi

Hedonism seems to be a way of life on the distant Mediterranean island of Cyprus. A party spot not that different from say Ibiza or Ko Samui where the worldrsquos youth gather to sunbathe club and go wild.Like all of these areas most of the people who travel here seem to leave their inhibitions at home. They are game for anything and the most pressing matter at hand is to have fun. Throughout

Meet the FamilyI have promised everybody for some time now that I would take pictures of Nicosia especially the area I live in and take show some of my friends to those who didn't believe how many George's I know so this entry aims to fulfill that request.First and foremost I live in the Hostel right down the street from Intercollege.
An adventure of sorts

Things started off with an excursion to the Troodos mountains courtesy of the student union the international one because as I understand there is a schism in the organization anyway... we learned a lot about Cypriot punctuality. These people suck at being on time everything we did was at least an hour late. Sometimes their excuses weren't so much as we are hungover much more accurate

I went to Kyrenia Bogaz Famagusta and Nicosia over winter break. North Cyprus is very beautiful and the people are extremely friendly. I actually ended up buying a condo in Bogaz by the beach. As far as hotels go I highly recommend The Ship Inn hotel in Kryenia... It is wonderful. They have tours rentacars as well as amazing food and services. The waiters in the restaurant become like fami

hello hello To our luck Cyprus was as warm and pleasant as we hoped. Interestingly the locals informed us that the temperatures were unusually warm a consistent trend we have been encountering country to country... to our pleasureSo the best way to get to Cyprus was a ferry... an of course never learning from our mistakes we decided to take the overnight ferry so that we yet again could

Last week was particularly eventful in that we went up into the Troodos Mountains for a couple of days stopping off in Omodos I'd forgotten how lovely it is we sat in the little square

Hmm 1970's Anyone

Today we visited Limmasol Cyprus. There were busses at port to pick us up and take us into the city. Seriously the entire town looked like time stopped in 1975. The buildings fit that period and to be honest so did everything else. There were a ton of shops selling all sorts or souvenirs which was nice. We didn't have a tour or any idea where we were going but we did stumble upon a castle Lim

Fascinating Cyprus

I made my first visit to Cyprus from April 2530 2007. Business in the capital of Nicosia also known as Lefkosia took most of my time but I had a weekend to try to take in as many sites as possible. On Saturday my collegue and I drove a rental car into the Troodos Mountains which were surprisingly rugged for a Mediterranian Island. The elevation reached approximately 1700 meters near Prodromo

Nicosia and home

Going to Nicosia was a long day. We all went as far as Larnica where we had a look around the paleontology museum. It was small but ok and we were lucky to get in as it was about to be closed for a cleanup following flooding a few days ago. We couldnt get into the municipal museum in the same building as that had already been closed. Mum and Jo stayed behind in Larnica while Dad Colin and I

Less ruins and more mountains

We took a well maintained secondary road over the hills at the base of the Akamas peninsular. The road wound almost straight up across a small plateau then straight off the other side with some good views all the way. We stopped in a village called Agios Georgios where there is a 6th century basilica and other ruins with some more mosaics. The site was smaller than wersquove seen already but

We were all squished in for the 4 hour flight to Paphos watching the movie in silence as we didnrsquot pay the extra for the headphones.England was wet and chilly when we left but Cyprus was a lovely warm sunny 26C. We picked up the hire car a Citroen Berlingo underpowered ugly but fitted us all
