A very exuberant weekend in Mar de Plata followed the relaxing Easter Holidays. Over the Easter weekend my friends from Colorado and the CU Women's rugby team arrived bearing necessities and gifts from up north. The most exciting of them being a stockpile of peanut butter A care package my Mom put together included a birthday gift of a fully loaded MP3 player thanks Bro a lot of Tabasco m

A weekend at the BeachLast weekend was a much needed break from literally a week of solid pouring rain. It rained so hard that in my 40 min walk home from work the seams of my umbrella began to split under the pressure Buenos Aires had ridiculous floods causing them to hold a rope and wade through 3 and a half feet of water at the corners Obviously they have drainage system issues here and the

Friday after I wrote the last blog I tried to rest up as much as I could until the concert. I ended up waiting over 30 minutes for the bus and it eventually came. The concert started late like most things in Argentina so I didnt miss anything. I saw Santiago and Leandro and Lucas outside we drank a little Fernet Cocacola and went inside to wait for the show. Front row. The place was act

So the school set up a weekend trip for Plata del Mar a beach town south of Bs As. It was pretty expensive 350 pesos but it included transportation to and from Mar del Plata and a ticket for the biggest game in Argentina Boca Juniors vs River Plate. I don't know why they are called those names. Rather different I know but try to explain to someone outside of America why we have teams called Me

Two games of football took place this weekend in the coastal area of Mar Del Plata. The first was a tight affair involving players recruited from all over the world and played with flair and passion in egual measures. The second was Boca Juniors Vs River Plate which I will come onto later. This first match took place on the beach during the afternoon prior to El Superclasico. A team of four unli

After a five hour bus ride I reached the Atlantic coastline and the city of Mar del Plata. Everything went smoothly with the bus ride except that I wasnt exactly sure where I was going to stay that night and I was getting into town around 10pm. Good thing people stay up late here. When I got off the bus I grabbed a bottle of water and made my way towards the nearest Locutorio. A Locutorio is a

Well maybe a few butts...We discovered Sir Mixalots inspiration at Mar del Plata and it wasnt pretty. The thong is all the rage in the beach town south of Buenos Aires so butts abound. And beach etiquette makes for full back views. Instead of getting their bronze on sprawled across towels Argentines stand in small groups chatting with their feet in the chilly Pacific with their backsides fa

To Mar del Plata Because of Holy Week we had no classes Thursday afternoon or Friday. In keeping with the solemnity of Easter week we decided to go to Mar del Plata a beach resort town. Since summer is just ending down here Holy Week is kind of like Labor Day Weekend one last hurrah before winter. The news said that 200000 Argentinians descended on Mar del Plata for the weekend.
One very cool thing that I forgot to mention was that we got to see comet McNaught while camping. Apparently it is the brightest comet in the southern hemisphere in 30 years. It could be seen streaking across the sky right after sunset low on the horizon so by the time it got really dark it was already gone. But we could still see it very well. Diego thought there was some kind of fire in the di

Talk about extremes From camp population 6 to Mar del Plata population 542000. Probably more like 600000 since it is the peak season where the streets are swarming with Argentine tourists. I still cant mesh. Vendors pick me out easily as someone who is

It's really off season so this little resort town if you can call it that... it's a bit sleepy is a GHOST TOWN but it's quite what I wanted. I have a cabin in the woods 150 meters or so from the deserted beach.
