Mud Without Rain

Heading 600km north to Trujillo we were glad to see the back of Lima. The main attraction here is Chan Chan a mud city built in the early 14th century there are a couple of other archaelogical sites as well and the city itself has a nicely restored centre which is painted in bright colours so nice after the grey of Lima. After the bad experiences we've had with organised tours we DIY'd it toda

When will the sun shine on Trujillo

Day 56 Sunday 24th August Overcast on the beach in HuanchacoUp early to catch a bus to Trujillo Peru's third city at 7am. Its a three hour journey and I decide to catch an early bus because I'm conscious of travelling quickly through Northern Peru to maximise time in what appears the more attractive well to the tourist South of the country. I have 2 weeks to get to Cusco for my Inca trail to

Trujillo

We arrived in Trujillo on Wednesday the 2nd of July. Its a nice colonial city with lots of archeological sites from the Moche and Chimu civilizations. Chimu were right before the Incas and the Moches preceded the Chimus. Do not get confused. Moche then Chimu then Incas. We did a few tours to various sites such as Chan Chan which was the capital of the Chimus. We also saw Las Huacas de La Luna

A little summary from the northern part of Peru Huacas del Sol y de la Luna The northern part of Peru has been a home for many different civilizations stretching about 5000 years back in time. Around Trujillo you can find archaeological places and remains from the Chimu people and Moche culture as the two biggest ones. After I changed my plans and decided to go to Galapagos I had some time during

Tumbling From Cuenca To Trujillo

June 14 We made the journey to Guayaquil over a week ago but soon found ourselves overwhelmed by the sweltering heat pollution and chaos of Ecuadors largest city. So we boarded a bus in search of greener and cooler pastures. Crossing back in to the Andes we settled into a gem of a city at Cuenca in the south of the country. After taking a day to explore the areas cobblestone allyways

The clouds and deserts of northern Peru

Peru's ancient civilisations More than just the IncasCloudy skies and desert landscapes are the memories I will take from our time in northern Peru. This region is much less popular with tourists than the south of the country but with sights such as the stunning mountains around Huaraz and the preColumbian ruins at Trujillo there are plenty of reasons to visit. We left the mountains of Huaraz

TRUJILLOOur reason for going to Trujillo was to do voluntary work in an orphanage. Jurgen had made contacts many months ago in the States with an American guy who knew of voluntary work needed in the area of Esperanza Trujillo. So for months we had been mailing 'Darlin' the owner re how our services could be of need.We spent our first couple of nights in a fabulous family run hostel ldquoRes

After staying in a dismal town called Alausi we pretty much stayed on a bus for the next few days. We stayed in Cuenca where the room was so horrific the bathroom looked like something out of a horror film that after a few beers for supper we booked into somewhere else with only the clothes on our back. After Cuenca was another bus to Tumbes the border town of Ecuador and Peru. In Peru we went

On the 27th September after a very busy three weeks in France with a side trip to Spain we flew back to Cayenne in French Guyana. We had a nice surprise when the airline company had to make a change to our flight which meant that we got to spend a night in a relatively posh hotel in Martinique before taking a connecting flight to Cayenne. It was very nice winding down in the hotel pool after th

Despite the location saying Trujillo we actually stayed in a nearby surfing town as everyone knows we are both a couple of surfdudes at heart about five miles from Trujillo. This was because having stayed in cities for all of our trip apart from the Galapagos we fancied a bit of a change and some sea air. It was a good choice Trujillo looked like most of the other cities... lots of people

As soon as we got there we saw a Peruvian hairless dog. These dogs have a high body temperature and were used as bed warmers in ancient times. Then we went inside th

The buses in Peru or at least the ones weve taken so far are very different than the buses in Ecuador. They are much newer more comfortable and they dont stop every 5 minutes for passengers with bags of rice or corn or whatever. Also when you buy a ticket it goes on a
