If Carlsberg did Zoorsquos it would do Singapore Zoo. The last zoo we went to was in Santiago and we left there a bit depressed after seeing only one animal per cage. They looked totally unhappy and it is not a zoo I would advise anyone to visit. Singapore Zoo on the other hand is the complete opposite. Orangutans roam freely around the zoo and you can get so close to the animals sometimes you

If we would have started the trip here I donrsquot think we would have appreciated it as much because Singapore is a lot like NYCmdashonly cleaner calmer and more organized.
To say that Singapore Zoo is a bit out of the city is both fact and fiction...For starters it takes about 70mins to get there involving 2 trains and a bus but although it gets a little more forrested you never actually leave the city. I have a feeling that the whole island is just one big city. So after hearing that it is classed as one of the best in the world we deciding to head there for th

Wednesday 11th February 09Caught the early bus to Singapore this morning. Arrived in Little India and looked around for a hostel that wasn't way too out of our price range. We went off for a little explore around Singapore which seems to be one endless shopping centre joined by overpasses over the roads. We found our way to Clarke Quay where there was BOGOF beers at a microbrewery. The bill sti

Singapore Zoo durian and friends

Singapore Zoo is fantastic. The animals are all housed in open exhibits which are as natural as possible with hidden barriers and moats etc rather than scary looking wire cages. It is also one of the few zoos to have white Bengal tigers which Amy was particulary besotted with. I'll attached as many pics as I canAfter the zoo we went back to the hostel we're now starting to call Boon Keng home

We got an old Finnish friend far from Hong Kong to visit with us. She had just finished her exchange semester in HK and was on her way aroun South East Asia passing by our beloved Singapore. It was a time to do some touristic things here and Singapore Zoo together with the Night Safari seemed to be a good option for us all. I personally had a little doubts towards Zoo not that I wouldn't like a

Dear allLast night I finally made it to the night safari. I had waited all this time and went armed with my camera. The zoo is right at the other end of Singapore so to get there we had a tube journey and then a bus journey. There is a safari tram that travels through the rainforest and the animals are at the side as you go round. Some animals are separated from you by a huge pit...such as the lio

Well it has only taken a year to start this blog...To say we have been busy is an understatement. You know life with the kids is rough and if I start complaining about planning at least 4 holidays most of our non expat friends will tune outLife's a bitch right The truth is this is a pretty small island and you have to get off and see something other than the manicured motorways and shopping

I arrived in Singapore last night and I'm staying at The Hangout at Mt. Emily in Lilttle India. It's a nice hostel and most importantly has air conditioning It's not that hot here it's just humid. After getting lost a couple of times trying to find the bus stop I jumped in a taxi to get to Singapore Zoo in time for the first show at 1330. The first show was Taking Back the Rainforest and some o

We have had the best couple of days On Monday we went to Sentosa island on the cable car. Pricey but cool. The island is kinda like a theme park but without the rides. You know that fake feeling to everything but it was done really nicely and was very pretty. Not half as tacky as I was expecting. And it had great views over to the city so we got an idea of what it looked like from a bit of

I headed back the zoo after being away from it for less than 12 hours. Perhaps not the best planninghellip. I headed right over to the jaguar exhibit to see if the one I knew was on exhibit. He wasnrsquot and so I hovered around for a while looking rather sketchy until I managed to get the attention of a keeper. He was incredibly nice and let me come back into the holding area to visit

Today started yesterday with an early start and uneventful flight from Barcelona passing over geography that barely registers in my mental atlas Georgia and Turmenistan the Caspian and Black seas etc. Arrived a bit tired as the sleeping pill that we took didn't work until we were 3 or 4 hours out. Since we have been here we have been using the amazingly efficient MRT system underground and
