The Trip Back to the USA 2009We planned to leave Georgetown as soon as the regatta was complete but Mother Nature had different plans. We were held up for 10 days waiting for a series of cold fronts producing vigorous North and North East winds to 20 and 25 knots to pass by. Finally on Sunday March 29th we sailed from Georgetown Great Exuma. This trip took us out into Exuma Sound which has w

Family Island Regatta

I just finished racing the Family Island Regatta in Georgetown Exumas Bahamas. All the boats were built in the Bahamas. The local cruising community helped a local Bahamian named Pat get his boat Two Friends ready for the regatta. Two Friends received a new mast a new Awlgrip paint job and some repairs. One CClass boat I raced on sank to the bottom just after we crossed the finish line

Without a doubt this has been one windy winter in the Bahamas We are currently waiting for weather to start north and hopefully will start heading up the Exumas tomorrow with a goal of getting back to St.Marys Georgia about the middle of April. We plan to leave the boat again this year in St.Marys and spend the summer home in Guelph. In addition to it being windy it has been cold. Wersquore

Last year we left Georgetown prior to the beginning of the annual Regatta due to our needed saildrive repairs. This year we made sure that we stayed and experienced this truly unique cruising experience. The Georgetown Cruising Regatta has been going on for the past 29 years and attracts boats from all over the Bahamas and some come over from Florida strictly for this event. This year approxima

Everyone out cruising cautions to never set arrival deadlines but in order to enjoy visits from family and friends it is necessary to be in a certain place at a certain time. Luckily the weather cooperated and we were able to sail in before their arrival date. This extra w

The Bahamas On To the ExumasWe arrived in Lucaya Grand Bahama Island on the afternoon of Friday November 28th after a 25 hour sail from Vero Beach Fl. The trip was mostly uneventful with light winds and calms. Not a bad way to make a Gulf Stream crossing. We checked into the Grand Bahama Yacht Club a fancy marina in Lucaya. From there it is easy to clear Bahama Customs and Immigration.

We set sail for Georgetown the southernmost port in the Exumas and happened to arrive the week of the big cruising regatta. We couldnrsquot believe how many boats were anchored in the harbor at least 400 But with the belief that there is always room for one more we made our way in and set the hook. Now the cruising regatta is a week long event with all kind of events like the coconut ch

We arrived back in Georgetown on February 15th after a smooth sail with 1012 knot following seas from Long Island Bahamas. The harbor in George Town seemed to grow by another 5060 boats while we were gone. There is a big event called George Town Regatta in early March and many boats in the Bahamas attend every year. Some years as many as 400 boats are anchored in the harbor at this time.Whil
