We had wondered why the GPS was saying it would take so long to cover the distance from the GermanPolish border to Krakow then we saw the 50kph signs and wondered why we needed to go so slow. And then we saw the highway... Although I think 'highway' is a rather generous description for the bits and pieces of tar at different heights loosely put together for the cars to drive on.
carrying on in Krakow

Krakow was not initally on our list of travel destinations. In fact if it wasn't for the random marathon I came across in Poland we might not have visited. But we are glad that we did even if it was very brief. It's one of those places that reminds us that what we read in our world history text as high schoolers was very real it affected millions of people and though it was not on US soil

All we have to do is look out our window and we see history relived. This afternoon we were surprised to see soldiers in all kinds of custumes parading by the apartment. We quickly headed out the door and up to the square. There we found the stage set up and television crews. This was a presentation to commemorate the 325 anniversary of the Battle of Vienna. 12 September 1683 Jan Sobieski

After the night on the streets in Slovakia we got our tickets to Krakow for midday and then went for a Mcdonalds at 7am. They don't do breakfasts over here so i had to have 2 x cheeseburgers and chips. Eating this so early in the morn no sleep forced me to have a nap on a park bench for a bit. After accidently buying sparkling water 3 times at the station we finally left Kocise and Slovakia af

Poland Prickles with Perpendicular Pickles

Until this trip much of our limited knowledge of Poland stemmed from several drunken outings with UQ Boxing to the Polish Club in Brisbane these outings were always followed by next morning headaches and only the tatters of any Polish cultural knowledge remained. So it was that we entered Poland armed with vague memories of drinking vodka with gold flecks floating in it and 8 Okocim beers.
