A Rough Schedule Read Nap Sleep When we left Dong Ha we were exhausted both physically and mentally. Our teaching schedule was fairly rigorous and I was sick our last week there. We were tired of talking to students to teachers to friends and even to each other. We were also treated to numerous farewell celebrations. We left Dong Ha around 9pm on Saturday night in a car that drove

After our stay at Jungle Beach we were keen to spend a few more days relaxing on an idyllic beach sandwiched between our time in Saigon and Bangkok so we headed to Phu Quoc an island off the South West coast of Vietnam closer to Cambodia by plane. The Island is pretty big so to explore it we hired a motorbike the roads aren't great most of the main ones are fairly flat but not sealed and

We have had several holidays within the holiday that has been this trip. Unawatuna was the first followed by Mirrissa Kota Kinabalu and now Phu Quoc. What they have had in common has been staying for a period in one place and beaches. The children are instantly happy doing very little but urgently. They run around and cast spells dig holes build sandcastles and irrigate water trenches.

This is Maitoday we left Saigon to go to Phu Quoc. We had to wake up at 700. Our flight was supposed to be at 1020 but it was late so we flew at a quatre to 1100. Our hotel didn't look like what I excpected. I thought it would be better. When we came to the hotel our power was out for 3 hours and there were notelevision. So We changed and went to the beach. The water of the beach was cold. W

I'm not going to write much for today because I really didn't do much. We tried to go next door and use their internet but the wifi wasn't working so I grabbed a taxi to Buddy's Ice Cream in the town. I had another adorable taxi driver I'm convinced every 2030 year old male on this island is driving a taxi because the island's not that big and I've yet to have a repeat driver... anyway he w

Today we woke up early and got breakfast at the hotel. Soon our driver came to pick us up. A few other people from our hotel were going on the same tour. We got loaded into a van and headed south to Sao Beach. Everyone we've talked to mentions this beach as the nicest beach on the island. As we got to the beach we were loaded onto a little boat to take us out to our bigger boat which was to

After the bottle of wine last night we headed over to this bar called the Dog Bar. It's owned by an Aussie guy named Jimmy. We met a couple of older expats guys and a Vietnamese lady who runs tours. She had the CUTEST puppy so little. We played with it for awhile and chatted with people. We had quite a debacle on our way home. Jimmy was being an ass to our taxi driver some expats have t

I got up and changed into my swimsuit got some breakfast then got in the water. We're right on the Gulf of Thailand and the water is great. It's warm like bathwater.
How many modes of transportation does it take

I made it Viet Nam If you look on a map of the distance I covered today it is laughable that it took me as long as it did but thanks to a lack of ferries from Cambodia to the island limited ferries in general and border crossings it took me a grand total of 10 hours and 6 forms of transportation to get from Kep Cambodia to Phu Quoc Island Vietnam. On a map they are 30 miles apart. I de

So...Long time no blogDont get me wrong I'm not apologising it was always the plan to tell you about our stay on Phu Quoc island either just before or just after we had left for the final part of our trip in Saigon.... But with the power of hindsight I probably should have done the blog in stages. It now seems a bit of a daunting prospect to catch up with everything we have seen and done since

Phu Quoc is about 100kms offshore from Rach Gia due east which on the map shows it to be closer to Cambodia that Vietnam sitting just 15kms south of the Cambodian coastline. It's over 1000 sq kms of mountainous protected rainforest and some none too shabby coastline. The main stretch called Long Beach is made up of a few highend resorts small guesthouses and a smattering of overpriced beach
