Well its been forever since I've written and as most of you know I'm actually home in California and have been for about a week. But I'd like to continue to write about my experience now that I have the time and hopefully it will express a more accurate depiction of the time that I had in Italy... because I've noticed that describing it to my family and friends after being home... I've been so ha

YoHave to say that I've gotten a bit sloppy during the past couple weeks with updating the blog and connecting to the net in general. The reason behind it is that I've delved into the wild nature of Alps where I've found friends who don't like the net so much and their influence forced me to forget about it for a while. The pics will tell you more than I can describe verbally. Right now I'm in R

Not Rimini but Cattolica is not in the database.I Hilary have done two stupid things already. Well 2 stupid things of note. Last night after eating in the excellent restaurant Norina where we ate last time we were in Pontremoli we took a glass bottle of water in the bag with us. We also had the Eee PC in there. I put the bag down in a bar and broke the bottle but Ashley had wrapped the E

Who haven't read something about Italy or seen something from Italy or tasted something from Italy Very few people in the world can say they never have done one of the three things. So do you still wonder why I got a fascination and a urge for visiting this country. The summer of 2007 we headed for Rimini a small city at the east coast of Italy. It lays in the county of Emilia Romagna the land o

It turned out we were fortunate to have had to get the 1030 pm ferry as by the time we left Igoumenitsa right on time the 2030 Superfast ferry had not yet arrived. The Anek lines ferry was OK. Ashley had to drive the bike down two very steep ramps into the bowels of the boat then back up the ramps to get off. Its just before the tourist season here so the hostel is somewhat empty. my room has 8 beds but im the only occupant. nice and quiet. this is aslo one of the cheaper hostels here as its 3 blocks from the beach and next to the railroad tracks. none of which bothers me. the rooms are c

Down the Adriatic coast from Ravenna are a series of small towns. These are the 'Lidi' or resort towns where Italians flock in summer. Some like Milano Maritimo are very trendy indeed and some like Rimini used to be the 'in' place but have become overcrowded and expensive. Cesenatica is between the two it lives for the tourist Euro but seeks to be quaint rather than trendy. This is a port d

Ciao tuttiI have some fabulous updates about last weekend which was spent in Rimini. Rimini is a town on the eastern coast of Italy in the region Emilia Romagna known for its cheese and its capital Bologna. Rimini is a beach town on the Adriatic Sea so it was kind of cool to be able to say that I swam in both the Mediterranean Sea and the Adriatic Sea within a week. Rimini is supposedly a r

Day OneI arrived in Rimini in the evening and was greeted by the lovely Andrea who took me home fed me a few snacks and got me all settled in. When not in Brussels he lives with his sister Alice pronounced Aleechay in Italian in a really nice apartment with great views over the city. I met Alice a little later on and we all went out for piadina for dinner at a hilltop restaurant. Piadina

From the Renaissance to the Riviera Rimini

I've been visiting Rimini on Italy's Adriatic coast onandoff for ten years. My first visit there was completely by chance expecting to find a highrise beach resort monstrosity but in desparate need of a sea breeze I ventured from nearby Bologna. Arriving I took a wrong turn and ended up in the historic town centre rather than the beach front a fortuitous move as otherwise I might hav
