Day 8 Hamburg

Day 8Editors note prior to Day 8 my journal was written in point form with the intention to rewrite it once I returned to civilisation. The previous evening and sequential conversation with Veronica and Melanie caused me to rethink my personal objective as a traveller and as a writer. From this day forth I wrote in longform. As previously noted this journal has altered from the original but

Martin and I hooked up in Hamburg for a fantastic weekend. Wonders of the internet meant that we had been able to arrange a venue to watch the AFL Grand Final with the Hamburg Dockers We had a very early start 6.30am at an Irish Pub watching the game. We then took a harbourport cruise which was very interesting as it is a large working port and has thousands of containers and a floating d

Hello there Today was a day to breathe some fresh air and visit the Tierpark Hagebeck. A huge animal park on the outskirts of Hamburg. Although I prefer my animals in the wild its an unfortunate fact of life that humans have encroached so much on habitats that some species can only be seen in captivity. Hagebeck does its job of conservation and education very well so I packed myself some lunch an

I woke up in Lubeck at 730. This is actually sleeping in as most days I wake up around 7 o'clock to breakfast with my family before they go to workschool. My class embarks on a walking tour with a very mustached man we meet by the river don't worry it's on purpose. He shows us some sights and tells us some facts but I'm pretty sure everyone will only remember the mustache. And the marzipan s

Today we spent the day in north germany by the the north sea in a small town called st. peter Ording. We arrived yesterday late with the hopes of camping on the beach but it was too dark out to find a good place to camp so we ended up settling with a camp site. The next morning we woke up to rain the first time this trip. it wasnt as bad as it sounds. it was only a light rain. so we packed up lef

Back to the Reeperbahn

WEDNESDAYWednesday we booked a hostel. I had spent all night seeking out our best options. We'd be staying three nights and wanted to be near city center so we wouldn't have to use the trains or busses. The best we could find were multy person dorm rooms. Everything else was extremely out of our budget. The way I saw it I was going to Amsterdam might as well make it the whole 'travel experience'

I don't remember much happening during class today. I remember i was late and there was a new young girl sitting in with our class. Giving there were only 3 days left of instruction i was a little confused. She didn't have any books. Was she a friend of Sinzi's At break I asked her her name. Lena. She was doing an internship at the Goethe and would be working in the Culture office with Maxi. Very

It was also Sinzi's birthday But the little stink hadn't told anyone but me after seeing the big todo that was put up for my birthday. Instead she brought a box of chocolates to share with us all. Very yummy. But she didn't realize when she bought them they were liquer sweets so most of them ha

Thursday the 18th I returned to class and found that I had missed essentially nothing. I'd say that it was probably Thursday that Derronnie and I started to click a bit more. Derronnie is from Michigan originally but now lives in Germany with his life partner. He's an artist painter to be specific. Maybe 25. At first he seemed stand offish but I think we connect on just being Americans and our
