Impressions of the UK so Far

So last night marked the halfway point for my studies at Edge Hill and I thought I would write a blog about my impressions of the UK so far. I will be assisted by my lovely friend Megan from Michigan.1. Men in university love to dress up in skirts to go out. Weird.2. Men in every continent or random island are exactly the same with no exceptions. Except for Sam.3. When you go to the doctor yo

I have been seriously procrastinating writing a new blog so this blog will set out to summarize the first four weeks of living in the UK. Hopefully it won't be too long. The first full week of living in the UK was Fresher's Week. This week was full of school organized events and social gatherings. During the day we would all go to meetings for our departments. In the UK you sign up for a deg

This entry should really run from 19 Sep dates are written backwards here to 27 Sep because it will take place over an entire week. I was surprised to find out on my arrival that classes did not start for another week. In the UK First Years Freshmen move in a week early. The week consists of meetings with your departments during the day and many organized campus events at night. In the U

So it has taken me two weeks to get caught up with what has been going on in my life. So much has happened and it's hard to put it all in words so bear with me. I'll pick up where I left off.The next morning we were picked up by our previous cab driver at 6am to be taken to the ferry to Holyhead in the UK. We paid extra for guaranteed seats in a higher class that provided free food and I woul

Day 4 Leigh

Leigh is where Lynn grew up so it was a wonderful opportunity to visit this village. The area was built on Mills and Pits so has a contrast between the working manrsquos home with rows of identical terrace houses on narrow streets to and those which were slightly larger with a pocket of front garden to newer estates of lovely homes on blocks of land which allow for manicured gardens similar t

Blackpool

Visited Blackpool today. It's a holiday seaside town which doubles as one big amusement park. There is an amusement park with Roller coasters and other rides but you can have as much fun on the 3 piers filled with side show games and rides many spruked by operators in that true Lancaster Scouse accent which just adds to the colour.England has become a melting pot of lots of different culture

Today took us by car from Stansted Airport to stay with Family in Darwen Lancashire. The drive was an experience. The motorways are filled with Trucks and Semitrailers and along with the locals who drive creatively. After a long drive we arrived at Darwen in the North of England to meet Family Uncles Aunts and Cousins. Our Evening took us to the Butlers Arms for a big family dinner and some

Our hosts Bruce and Anice think we are mad giving up the prospect of a beautifully fine day in the Lakes District to go and walk the piers and promenade of Blackpool. But its a bit like a pilgramige for Gretchen who for years used to tell our girls off when they had all the lights in the house turned on saying its like the Blackpool illumination. She had of course never seen the illuminations exce

A Step Back in Time.

We've just spent the day in Slaidburn Lancashire today as Stan had heard there was a steam rally on. By the time we got there the village green was busy with loads of picnickers eating their lunch and listening to the fair ground type organ playing away with old thyme music hall songs. We felt we'd taken a step back 80 years or maybe more. The steam fair itself was a nice event several old tracti
