Gate into Buchenwald

Buchenwald was a large concentration camp from the mid 1930s until its liberation on April 11, 1945 by American forces advancing through central Germany. Even though it ws not made to be a "death camp" thousands did die of disease, malnutrition or the harsh treatment of the SS who guarded them. The message on the main gate translates into "To Each His Own"

The clock on top of the main gate at Buchenwald always reads 3:15, the exact time that American soldiers liberated the camp on April 11, 1945.
