La region de Istmo
These are the most elaborate and expensive costumes of all of the regions This is my second blog entry for this year. I have taken a lot of pictures so I am not sure where to begin but I will take a stab at it.
I think I will begin with my second weekend here, 1/31 - 2/2. We went to the Guelaguetza show at the hotel Quinta Real. The hotel is an old ex-convent from the 17th century. The costume and dances are done by students at the Technological Institute. These are dances and costumes from the seven indigenous regions in the state of Oaxaca. The "real" Guelaguetza is held the last two Mondays of July but the Institute has begun having performances each Friday and you have the option of having an authentic Oaxacan dinner there at an additional cost. It is a truly wonderful experience. As part of this weekend I went to the movies in the more modern part of the city, much like an American shopping center.
