I guess it pays to be cute and even in the animal world creatures know when they are and they do tend to use this as an emotional lever.
Well Bitsy is no different.
Who is Bitsy, well Bitsy belongs to the house we are sitting at the moment and one of the instructions we were given when her owner is away was to “Wash the Dog”
I appreciate that Caroline has had a lot to do, whilst I have been away so, over Skype I had said that as soon as I was back I would wash the dog.
Today was that day and after dropping Caroline off at the train station, I got back to the house and set about organising the mission in hand.
Dog bath, full of warm water-check!, dog shampoo-Check !, -check!, and Dog Cam, all present and correct, so let the games begin.
As Bitsy is a little dog, I would guess a cross between a bull terrier with the longish body of a sausage dog, she only has little short legs and loves standing on her table when she wants to
be fussed or have her lead put on.
Well when I got back from dropping Caroline off, Bitsy always gets on her table and waits for someone to see her in the back garden and she watched me intently get all the dog washing paraphernalia together and as soon as I filled the bath with warm water, she shot off and stood watching me from the top of the garden.
As I crouched down and splashed the water, I called her name but she just woofed at me as if to say, “no way matey” I’m not getting wet for anything.
Caroline had advised me that Bitsy would possibly need to be put on the lead, so I was obviously making it hard for myself, by not doing so and with her at the top of the garden barking at me, I needed to pull out my big guns and had a bag of Roo Jerky in my arsenal of tricks and as soon as the dog saw me waving the bag of dog treats around, she was off like a Bondi tram as fast as her little paws would carry her down the garden.
She
jumped straight on to “Her” table with such gusto she nearly slid straight off it, then without a momentary pause, I slipped her lead on.
Even with her lead on Bitsy would not get in to the water, and as I steered her towards her bath, she just did some fancy foot work and stepped around it, which gave me no other alternative but to pick her up and place her in the her warm bubble bath.
Initially once the dog was in all she wanted to do was get out, but after a while she settled down and let me rub her doggy shampoo in and finally tip a couple of buckets of water over her to rinse her off.
With a quick rub dry, on her doggy towel, she flew off her table and took a roll in the soil up at the top of the garden, undoing all my hard work, still she did smell gorgeous.
