My first encounter with a monk
What a special moment - Wat Arun "On August 6, we stayed at the hotel for a bit still in Luang Prabang and then we flew to Bangkok Thailand. When we got to the hotel, we went to the pool. Then we went to a temple with a huge golden Budhha. There were people praying to the Buddha. Finally we went somewhere to eat. We first ate Pad Thai with shrimp. It was spicy but good. Then we went to a restaurant and ate Pad Thai again and a red curry. For dessert we had mango sticky rice and then we went back to the hotel. On August 7, we went to a temple and got a massage. We saw a huge lying down Buddha. It was shiny. Then we went to the palace with lots of art. Then we went to eat lunch at Coconut Palm. We had really spicy noodles and a sea food dish. It was good. Then we went to a temple that you can climb up stairs. Then a monk gave me a good luck bracelet. Then we went back to the hotel and went into the swimming pool for a long time. Then we got out and we went out to Loving It!
Thai Foot Massage at Wat Pho eat in a restaurant. First we had lettuce, dried shrimp, peanuts, and other stuff. Then I ate noodles again and my dad ate crab. Finally we went to a place to eat dessert. We had a banana split. It was good. Then we went to the hotel".

Daddy's Comments/Details: Initial plan was to just go to Laos and Myanmar, but being no easy way to get from Laos to Myanmar in short amount of time, a stopover in Bangkok was in order. I was last in Thailand for New Years 2000 for 2-3 weeks, but had only spent less than 24 hours in Bangkok and did not see many of the sites. Plus, Sofia had never been there. Short < 2hour flight and we arrived in Bangkok. On the way to our hotel we saw huge advertisement covering a tall building showing Messi (Sofia's favorite soccer player to her mom's dismay) and some other Barca players. Just so happens that our taxi driver informs us that Barcelona was here on exhibition and going to play Bangkok's national team the next night. After a discussion we decided that
Dropping a Coin in Each Bucket
Next to the reclining Buddha - Wat Pho we would not go to the game as we say him play twice in South Africa and once in Miami exhibition, and may see him play next summer in Brasil.

We arrived at our hotel,
Lamphu Tree House Hotel , and Sofia loved that they had a pool. I wanted to go to a temple, Sofia wanted to go swimming, so......we went swimming. Fast shower and we were off to the first temple, Wat Suthat. We had just received news from Jana that Sofia's grandma, Anita, was not feeling well. We both decided to buy some flowers to donate to Buddha for Anita. We both were happy we did that.
We then headed to Khao San Road. On arrival, Sofia first wanted to try some Pad Thai from a street vender. She loved it. We then went to a restaurant and had more Pad Thai and red curry. Delicious. We then had one of my favorite desserts, mango sticky rice, which Sofia loved as well. A couple drinks and then a taxi ride back to hotel.

Our first stop in the morning was Wat Pho. We were the first
I'm tough too
Wat Pho - Bangkok to arrive so it was great. We walked all around the place which had so many cool things before the temples were open. So many pics and games. Our favorite was the large reclining Buddha and Sofia loved putting coins in the large bins. We had so much fun there. After so much walking, Sofia wanted a foot massage as the have a school within the grounds. Why not? We both had an awesome 30 minute Thai foot massage.
We then ate some delicious street food, which I think was some sort of pork balls with spicy sauce that Sofia decided we needed to go back for seconds. Then we went to the Grand Palace. It was beautiful, but we both preferred Wat Pho.
We had lunch at Coconut Palm. The woman who worked there was awesome and kept giving Sofia some treats. Sofia ordered a squid/calamari noodle dish. She loves spicy but ordered it medium spicy. Unbelievable....it was so spicy that even I felt it was too spicy (that is extremely rare). She could only handle a few bites of the seafood, the noodles sucked up too much of the spice. We traded dishes. We both loved
the place though.

Final temple of the day was Wat Arun. Here Sofia had her first interaction with a monk. She has had such a fascination with them, for one to call her over and giver her a bracelet was such a great experience for her. She was so happy. We climbed up only 1/2 way as the stairs were a little dodgy going to the top, but we go a great view.
Couple hours in the pool then a delicious dinner at
Krua Apsorn which was delicious. Then and hour or 2 back to Khao San Rd for drinks and souvenirs. Time to go to bed and get ready for the country where we were to spend the majority of vacation.....Myanmar......
