Was it Sam?
Tuesday, 23rd April - Day Twenty: a day trip to “Hobbiton”. This is a day we arranged for ourselves especially so that we could visit The Shire, and see where the Hobbits lived. We had to book online at least 3 days in advance even though tours leave daily every half hour in winter. If we hadn’t lost our way in Cambridge we wouldn’t have missed the 10:00 trip, but got the one later and had time to look around the gift shop while we waited.

Hobbiton is on a private farm. It was the actual movie setting for the trilogy of “Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” and was the perfect place for the films with no buildings, roads or power lines to mar the beauty of the rolling hills. You can read more about it online.

Our tour lasted about one and a half hours and we loved being amongst the tiny dwellings, walking along the path where Gandalf and Frodo rode, marvelling at every detail such as the intricate wood carvings, hand-tooled garden ornaments and flowers in tiny pots. Our walk finished at the Green Dragon Pub drinking authentic apple cider and ginger beer.
