Thursday April 25th, 2013. Cruising the Strait of Messina, Italy

Today was a sea day. First thing in the morning we cruised through the Strait of Messina, the narrow passage separating Sicily from mainland Italy. There are no pictures as M was still in bed with a stinking cold and cough.

Didn't take part in many activities on board. Went to the Mediterranean Highlights lecture which turned out to be a hard sell of the ship's tours. We didn't eat a breakfast as we had been invited to an Indonesian Buffet at 11 am. We didn't eat much as it was too early but M tucked in to the satay dishes with gusto.

M didn't go to craft as tissue paper flowers didn't rock her boat but we went to the quiz and came equal 1st and lost on a tie break. Who the hell knows when St Patrick first landed in Ireland? In the evening we watched the show which was a pianist called David Howarth from the UK. He was very proficient but only played pieces that would appeal to the masses (understandably) - plenty of John Williams and Elton John. Today was ANZAC (Australia, New Zealand Army Corps) day. This is the equivalent of our Remembrance Sunday on 11th November. Special ANZAC day biscuits were made to commemorate the ultimate sacrifice that many Antipodeans made in the First World War.

Dinner was excellent lamb chops but a clumsy waiter managed to spill a whole glass of red wine over D. He couldn't have picked a worse person to spill it over! D went to change and the cabin boy took his clothes to the laundry. We were joined for dinner by another pleasant Ozzie couple.
