The next morning we got an early start and left Big Bay on Trail 14. The plan was to ride the 40 miles down Trail 5 toward Michigamme and then ride west on Trail 8 to Kenton. At least the WAS the plan. The guide (me) thought he knew the trails without checking the current trail map and didn't know that they changed where the intersection of Trail 14 and 5 was. Sooo, he went past it. He didn't realize it until we were a good 10 miles past it, so we rode Trail 14 back toward L'Anse.

A lot of the woods in the Hurons were coated with frost from the previous day's mist and it looked like a winter wonderland, but it was overcast the day before so we couldn't get any good pictures, but today it was sunny so Michael get a couple nice pictures. So that was one saving grace of riding Trail 14 again along with the fact that it was just spectacular for riding. Yesterday, Michael kept remarking how smooth the trails were and that we only saw a few snowmobiles on the whole ride. He was astounded that the club went out and groomed the trail again that night. Just phenomenal conditions.

Our lunch stop would be Hoppy's Bar in Kenton which was about 90 miles from Big Bay. On the way there, you go through the town of Sidnaw on Trail 8. Sidnaw is almost a ghost town since the one and only bar & grill burned down several years ago. While going through town, you cross a set of railroad tracks. Today a train was actually crossing the road. In all my years of coming to this neck of the woods, I've crossed tracks many times and NEVER seen a train moving. I guess I'll stop and look both ways from now on.

We ate a nice lunch at Hoppy's and then rode 40 miles on Trails 107, 2 and 3 back to Land O' Lakes. It only turned out to be a 133 mile day. Had we taken the planned route, it would have been closer to 170 miles. The excellent trail conditions made 133 miles seem so easy, Michael wanted to ride some more.
