Nurnberg Street & Nancy
Very like the small Christmas decorations with candles to make the wheel at the top turn but quite large. We decided to stay in Nurnberg one night on our way from Prague to Paris. It can be done in one day, but that involves a very close connection. Rather than chance missing our train, we decided to spend one night in this city and catch the train to Paris the next day. The extent of our knowledge of this city was some of the history of the Nurnberg trials after World War II.
Several days before beginning our travels I was told "That is where the largest Christmas fair in Europe is held". Fortunately when we got off the train and headed for our hotel we went out the 'wrong' exit and came up right in front of a very lovely and very old part of the city. There was a wonderful city wall and gate and we took a short cut and checked out this interesting and quaint area. There were many stalls selling Christmas treats and good German sausages as well as a very lovely exhibition of diorama sized creche or Bethlehem scenes. Many of them were quite old and some were newer creations. They were exquisitely carved and often 'Bethlehem' was a simple German village. This
making of the incarnation of God in Jesus Christ in a local setting is most typical all across the parts of Europe that we have visited. Of course it is very fitting as a reminder that at the birth of Jesus each nation, village and person was visited in human form by God. This special exhibition area was set to close in about one hour so we were very glad we had stopped 'by accident' to see it since it would not be open early in the morning before we had to catch our train.
We found our hotel easily, settled in the room & checked about how to find the Christmas fair. It was very easy. Go out the door. Walk straight ahead. Keep walking. The 'keep walking' part was totally amazing and took much longer than we anticipated. No, it wasn't very far until things began to be beautiful. The streets were all full of beautiful Christmas lights and people in the streets rushing here and there to buy more Christmas gifts or head to the fair for treats and delights. We decided to eat in Middle Eastern place For some reason we were smart enough share
River and bridge
In the middle of the town this lovely river scene caught our eyes. one of the gyros and when it arrived we stared open jawed at the size of what we had ordered! It was delicious and after we were well stuffed with food, we headed out again. The fair was large and long and seemed to go on forever. Thus the longer than anticipated walk. It was pitch dark of course and the decorations on each booth, the beautiful things for sale, the people obviously having a wonderful time just pulled us on and on until we finally arrived at ONE of the ends of the fair. It was very near a gigantic church. We then turned back toward the hotel and soon realized we had done ONE street of many which had Christmas fair booths. If we had tried to check out all the small side streets off the main path, I doubt if we would have had enough energy to get back to the hotel. It was quite cold and we decided to buy two good hot crepes with cinnamon sugar melted on them. They were delicious and they made our cold hands warm all the way back to our room. We had a wonderful night's sleep both because of

High above the street. our long day and long walk and because this hotel had the most comfortable mattresses I had ever felt. They advertised that the mattresses were made exclusively for their hotel chain. What a pity they aren't available in stores at home! We were sorry we had only one evening in Nurnberg. We hope to visit it again soon since there were many interesting buildings and places there to see and spend at least one full weekend enjoying. Page down and enjoy more photos of this quite nice town.

Enjoyed Christmas all over again!
Dear Bill and Nancy, I really like seeing your blog with pictures and comments. You travel well and will an eye for really seeing the sights. I am not sure I would have understood the paper about Newtown but it was amazing to think how far tenderness and care can wander. All is well here with an inch or two of snow. I hope you enjoy your travels as much as I do. Colleen
