Saturday 8th September

The plane arrived early to Buenos Aires and I was collected at the airport by the tour guide and taken to the hotel. Downtown is 38km’s from the airport and the road is massive. The only road to downtown from the airport is a toll road that is at least 6 lanes wide on each side. Seriously - no-one uses blinkers at all on the roads unless going around a corner. The streets in Buenos Aires are all one way and at least 3 or 4 lanes wide not counting the kerbside lanes. Some of the streets don’t even have line markings but it all seems to work fine. Everyone just changes lanes all the time.

Sunday 9th September

Spent the day wandering around the city. Ended up down at Puerto Madero where they have a loch system for the boats. This area is much more modern then a lot of Buenos Aires as you can see from some of the photos. After that wandered back towards the hotel looking at different things. Saw a few sights (see photos). A great number of buildings are very art deco style, particularly inside. In most of the places I have eaten at the fixtures and furniture are out of a 1940’s movie and they all have lots of very well dressed waiters. They have a shortage of any money under 10 dollars so unless you have the right money you end up paying more as a tip as they can’t give you the right change. Tipping is pretty much compulsory like America. The number of people around is incredible and this is a Sunday afternoon.

Monday 10th September

Met the rest of the today and we went on a tour around the city to areas including La Boca, Plaza del Mayo, Recoleta and a few other landmarks. Had lunch down on the water at Puerto Madero around 3pm and wandered around the shops. We found a great place for dinner where we absolutely pigged out on baby goat, pork, beef, chicken all cooked in an amazing way. Five of the group know each other as they had all lived around Orange.

I think we all going to have a great time. Anyway, it's after 11pm and have to leave for the airport around 9 for the flight to Iguazu Falls.
