Coming to America

Hey Everyone!

We're back in the States! Best thing about it is finally being able to use our cellphones again. Not so much for Ang.

So where did we leave you off? It was Sault Ste Marie. So our travels brought us fron Ste Marie to Thunder Bay the day before yesterday. We left pretty early, and drove around the northern side of Lake Superior. This was probably one of the most pretty drives I've ever done. There were lakes and valleys on both sides of the highway at every turn. There were plenty of people on the road,and plenty of lake cottages, but you would come across a town only about once every 100 miles. It's a pretty secluded place, expecially if you veer off the lakes at all. We probably did about 9 hours that day, and got past Thunder Bay, where we found a place camping at Kakabeka Falls campground. We got in at around 6 pm and had finally figured out that we needed to buy wood ahead of time, so we were ready to get set up and relax once we got there. We spent the evening beginning our album by writing our first song. We'll play it for you when we get back. I expect it to go Top 40. Just kidding 😊

So, the next morning we woke up and showered and packed up the campsite. We walked down to take a look at the falls that the campground is named for. We were completely stunned that something so breathtaking was in walking distance of where we camped. This waterfall was much larger than what you normally see in our area. I've probably only seen one or two larger than this, not including Niagara. I'll try to get a picture on here. It was a great way to start the day.

We left the campground around 12pm, but were aware that we would be switching into the Central time zone shortly, which gave us an hour back. We followed the same route we had been following through Sault Ste Marie (route 17) for probably about 3 more hours, before we came to the town in which we were going to cross from Cananda back in to Minnesota. A few hours before this, I started driving so I could be the one to drive us through customs. We didn't need a repeat of what happened when coming into Canada. Little did I know it would be worse.

We pulled up to border control and I immediately forgot that I had reminded myself 12 times before we got there to take my sunglasses off. First thing I was asked. The very nice woman asked us a few questions, what we had bought while in Canada, why on EARTH we were crossing the border in Minnesota, etc. Then she told us that they would be running a few additional checks today. So they had us pull the car up to a checkpoint, walked us inside, searched our pockets, wallets, my bag, and asked us many more questions. Then they pulled apart the car. Piece by piece, they removed every item of camping gear, backpacks, cake tins and clothing. Everything was removed from the car, and then the dogs were brought over to sniff everything. We sat there in immigration for about a half an hour, getting quizzed on why our accent wasn't as strong as they thought it should be. Ugh. We can't even make it back into our own country without drama. But they finally let us in. Yay, we made it!

We found our way trhough Minnesota to the town we're in now; Bemidji. We went out and watched some football last night and made some new Canadian/ Minnesotan/ Scottish friends. We've already seen a bit of a change in the healthiness/ niceness quotient. (I.e. people are a bit more rude and much fatter) Today we begin our journey to South Dakota. Update again soon! Congrats! But you guys can't do without the drama! Oh well! Glad you were able to see some football. The Pats did well but tennis was wonderful. Can't wait to hear your song! Rest up and drive carefully! I love you muchly! Your blogs are fabulous! So informative! Thanks for sharing!
