More stories from the most seaoned sailors
Hi Folks. Good progress is being made in our passage north. We weren't sure how to go over or under Long Island, New York without strong currents and major traffic, so we made a nice hop from Barnegat Sound, NJ straight to Block Island, Rhode Island. It was a nice smooth overnight passage, ending with the discovery of another charming well-developed tourist spot and boater's haven on Block Island. I'm not sure how I have lived this long without knowing about this place.

I was also surprised to anchor next to a boat, Palawan, that I first saw this boat or it's namesake in Kennebunkport in the 70's. At that time Palawan was a handsome aluminum boat that was said to belong to the president of IBM. Years later I met a captain in Port Credit who had sailed Palawan for Heraldo, after it was refitted and re-named Voyager. This boat at Block Island was in prime shape and may just be famed Palawan. Strangely I remember that the original Palawan had very fancy dorades and this one had those too!

Since our last blog we have been to Atlantic City, where we met a fantastic couple, Jim and Pat who live by the lagoon where we anchored for a few days. They are very 'boater friendly' and Jim turned out to be another harbour angel who helped us with a couple of emergency trips for repair equipment. thanks to Jim the gray water pump works and the anchor chain pipe is well repaired. We hope we will be able to return their hospitality someday soon when we get to Halifax.

We came here to get the Navionics chart for Nova Scotia at West Marine and touch base with new friends. When we're on the move it's naturally complicated to order things because of the delivery delays or changes of course. We have enjoyed a more great hospitality, with another quick jam with Ben and 'Buddy' and sight-seeing, including a wonderful cliff walk around the seaside. Enjoyed trading stories with David, a trans-Atlantic 21 foot junk sailor and Hilary, and their sailor friends visiting from England. We are extremely lucky to meet such talented folks.

Our main camera has expired through battery issues, the new cell phone got 'waked' in the dinghy and the old cell phone camera has disappeared, probably hiding in a pocket somewhere. Hope

Lots of alernate energy options here.
the new Vivitar from the drug store can help us record the last leg of the trip. We are presenting enjoying the benefits of boater facilities at the Maritime Centre, City of Newport.

There is a tropical storm cooking up near St Lucia, which is supposed to take a week to make up it's mind if it wants to come north. Wind is very calm here but seas are running a bit high.

Our plan is to make our way in the next day or two, to the edge of land, Nantucket or Cape Cod and then make a little leap north of the St' George Bank to the south west tip of Nova Scotia, probably Cape Sable Island.

Meanwhile...Newport is gorgeous, a lot like Halifax x100 and a grand place to visit by sea. Time to hike up hill for a few final groceries before returning to Melo for hull scrubbing and an early night. See you in Canada!
