Day 10- 'Cause Our Love, Will Stand Tall As the Trees

Bittersweet it was to be leaving our 5-star bed and breakfast to hit the road again. Getting ready this morning was like starting a new trip. We cleaned out the car, restocked the snacks, and resorted our clothes.

We began our 4 hour long trek to Oakhurst, CA which sits at the south entrance of Yosemite National Park. Of course, the beginning is your traditional city highway, and then comes the two lane road and 'watch for deer' signs. We arrived to Oakhurst at about 2:00pm and it was hot. 'Do we go now? Do we go later?' we thought to ourselves. After leaving '85-in-the-day-and-55-in-the-night' San Francisco, the heat was a rude awakening. We ate a quick lunch and headed to the south gate. Our destination was the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias. What a treat! We arrived to trees larger than the width of our car all around us. We decided to take the tram tour..maybe next time we'll hike...so we could experience the entire grove. These trees hailed nearly 30 feet in diameter and more than 2000 years old. We couldn't believe our eyes! You can see in the pictures how we compared to the size of the tree.

And if you have ever seen the famous picture of the sequoia with a tunnel that cars drove through, it was here too...on its side. It fell over thirty years ago and we felt so bamboozled. No wonder all of those pictures look set in the sixties. Luckily, there were bigger and more impressive trees in the grove.

We took our tour and then went to rest at the hotel. The drive to the Hoover Dam is 8 hours so we have to get ready.

Alright then, I sure hope your love does last as long and as tall as those trees... Looks like they have a great and dependable provider, of water and sun, to last this long.. Beautiful..
