After a good crossing back from the Bahamas on May 30th and a waltz around the corners at Palm Beach and Lake Worth, MELODEON is back on track, heading north to Canada.

During our crossing we enjoyed smooth sailing until we snapped an aft mast shackle as we were heading north on the Gulf Stream. We re-routed to Lake Worth to repair our only stayed mast. With great good luck we eventually secured a cruising permit and began our journey north again.

Melodeon loves to sail and the south winds out of Lake Worth were perfect for us. We got am amazing send-off from some huge dolphins. They danced around our hull quite a bit, seeming to give us a good look see. Not sure if they have colour vision but we fancied they liked our sails.

When batches of thunderstorms moved in on us, we came back in to Fort Pierce. We have never entered Fort Pierce inlet before and we do not make a practice of entering any harbour at night if we can avoid it. But this time it seemed like the lesser of evils, so in we came on a rising tide. there was a hairy moment when MELODEON was surfing in at 7 knots, on idle speed. Quite a current. After nudging around a couple of spots we were able to find a place to anchor off the ICW and wait to move to a better spot in the morning. By afternoon, we had convinced ourselves that really needed to go and catch up with things at Vero.

Somewhere in the storms our lower wind genny bit off an antenna on the aft deck and smashed it's blades. We get quite a bit of power from this genny, so we decided to come to Vero Beach to get new blades and do some more chores that will make our sailing a little smooother.

If we get to visit our local friends here, play some music and take a last trip to the beach, so be it! We know this place is affectionately called Velcro, so we are going make this a brief stop.

Our next big target is Jacksonville with more chores and folks to catch up with. See you later.

Dolphins, Porpoise and Whales
These are all great escorts. I used to bring them close in by whistling into the underwater telephone, then talk to them a bit. Good sailing... i am watching. Mike
