We only had one day in Brisbane as we are starting to struggle to get up to Cairns in time, but its a city so in a lot of respects the same as any other city. There is however a very nice area called South Bank so after we had checked into our hostel we headed there.

We arrived at the hostel at 12 only to be told we couldn't check in till 2. They let us store our luggage and use the bathrooms and kitchen though. I always find myself getting cold on the buses so I dressed a bit warmer to travel butit was absolutely boiling when we got here and had carried our bags several blocks. So I really wanted to change into something cooler. As we didn't have a room yet and I had already run up and down the stairs several times by this point I decided to get changed in the luggage room, thinking that as we had the key no-one else would have it so no-one would come in and Anwen guarded the door anyway. No-one did come in but I changed into my bikini bottoms only to then find that there was a security camera behind me....that I had just flashed my bum to!!! Whoops!! We then went down to reception ready to leave only to be told we coudl now check in! We had a small 4 bed dorm with two other girls.

We then met our friend Zoe from Spot X who had brought two Scottish girls with her and headed to South Bank. To get to South Bank we had to walk across a bridge over the river and at the other side is a man made lagoon. Brisbane is not directly on the coast so this is their version of a beach. It is like a swimming pool with sand around the edges, it was quite nice and we went for a little paddle but the water was not very warm. We had a look around the shops and market stalls and I bought some churros with chocolate sauce! Yum yum!!

In the night we met up with Jess and Shaun, a couple that we met in Melbourne and went for a drink. We went to an Irish pub that was very lively and had a live band which were actually pretty good! It was nice to catch up with them but one cider was $7 here, which is a lot when I'd previously paid $3.60 for the exact same one....so I just had the one!! We also had to get up at 5am in the morning to catch our bus so with that looming over us we couldn't make it a late one 😞 but had a good time all the same.

Anwen has decided that Hungry Jack's chips taste like carboard and will be sticking to McDonalds in future! Hahaha!!
