Lining up for Easter MassLining up for Easter MassLining up for Easter Mass

Basilica di San Marco
Happy Easter everyone. For the first time ever, we lined up to attend Mass. Admitedly we were lining up to attend Mass at the Basilica di San Marco on Easter morning so this was probably to be expected. When we left the service, there were still people lining up to get in.

After Mass, it was time to get lost in the streets of Venezia. And lost we got. Even Google Maps had a tough time understanding where we were. But there were plenty of shops and sights to keep us interested. The weather was becoming chillier and keeping moving through the warm stores was the way to go.

We can't work out the Italians. In the south, they build towns on the sides of cliff faces. In the north they build a city in the middle of the ocean. We are sure they only do this so they can charge visitors exhorbitant sums of money to park their cars.

By lunch time we were thinking of heading back to our hotel and came across a shop selling Pizza Dogs. Yes, a margherita pizza wrapped around a hot dog. Brilliant. Jake and Nick ordered one each and claimed

they had found heaven.

Nick wanted a Pizza Dog for dinner, but we had no hope of finding that place again, even if we wanted to.

After a quick stop back at the hotel, we decided to take the ferry to the island of Murano. Lots of very beautiful handmade glass products, and lots of mass-produced glass souvenirs. Jake made his first purchase of the trip at Murano.

Nick decided that he needed another Football jersey, this time a Lionel Messi Barcelona version with the words "Not Certified Copy" across the back of the collar. At least they are honest about it.

By now, the temperature had dropped a fair bit and some rain had set in - the Amalfitana sun seems like a long time ago, now.

The rest of the afternoon was a lazy affair. Sue did some shopping on her own (this time with a map) and we all journeyed out for a nice, quiet meal and a Gelato at Grom for dessert.

Sue and Damian finished the evening in a small bar, El Sbarleto, with a glass of red from the Veneto region and some Jazz music - a perfect

One more night in our cosy room and then we head back to Troncherro to (hopefully) find our car and luggage. A quick check of the today's weather at our next stop, Massimeno, said -5C and "blowing snow"!! Won't that be nice?

Murano is lovely
This is a fascinating blog. When I went to Murano as an adolescent so many years ago, it was a fantastic place. It seems that it is under threat from factories in China. I hope that the tradition survives somehow.
