Today marks my 4 year birthday of being a Travel Blogger. It wasn´t planned, but I am celebrating it from Ushuaia, the End of the world, aka Southernmost City of the World. Now, please bear with me, because although this incredible hotel does have WIFI, it is not strong enough for me to use, so I will try to do my best on a hotel computer. Please ignore any typos or oddities. I was looking back today and thinking about my view of travel when I first joined TB. My first trip to Europe was approaching and I really thought that it was going to be my only trip abroad. It was going to be the one I looked back on when I was old (ok, so much older than I already am) and think, wow, I went to Europe. How naive I was to think that. Four years, four manificent trips and I am already looking ahead. Woo Hoo, I can´t wait to see where I have been in another 4 years.
I left my hotel in El Calafate today at 10. The weather had turned and it was ugly and rainy out. What great fortune with the weather
Celebrating my 4 year TB Birthday
Nice wine in a great location. I thought it was fitting. I have had so far this trip. The airport was easy and it was a quick flight to Ushuaia. To be honest, I still have a hard time beliving I am here. The hotel is as glorious as it appeared on the webpage. This was one place that I so wanted to stay that I actually ended up calling here a couple times to make sure it happened. Although it is not in the center of town, its location right on the Beagle Channel makes it so beautiful.
I took a taxi toward the center of town. To me, Centro was pretty self explanitory, but as we passed it and started driving by oil refineries or something I decided to intervene. Just take me to the Travelers Info. I really wanted to stamp my passport with the Ushuaia stamp, which I did. From there I took a taxi to the Martial Glacier. I was going to ride the chairlift up and see what was up there. Unfortunately the weather was so ugly that it was not running. Oh heck, I wanted to check it out, so I hoofed it up the rocky path. Got some great pictures before it
started raining. The same taxi was still there, so I had him take me back to my hotel. Oh, what to do? Luckily Pamper Brendan took over and ordered an hour massage. Oh yeah, that filled the time very nicely. It would have been easier if I had spoken Spanish, or she had spoken, English, but we made it work. My poor legs were a mess. Darn that Travel Brendan and his go for it all attitude. I felt so good after the pampering that I decided to stay in and have dinner at the hotel. Let´s just say that the wine was incredible. The onion, tomato, green leaf salad, well not so much and the dry as heck lamb was just nasty. The good thing about this trip is that I have probably lost weight. The bad thing is that I don´t need to lose weight. What is a guy to do? Anyhow, I am having issues with the internet on the hotel computer, so will try to publish this now.
Ciao,
