Well folks here we are at last in a posistion to complain miserably about the weather...... after weeks and weeks and weeks we have finally been hit with the most awful weather we could have imagined, which along with our large spacious clean (!!!) campervan has made for an interesting week. We started the week by collecting the van in Sydney and then driving 800 km to the world famous Byron Bay. This is mainly a surfers hangout and after our experiences in Bali we believed that this would be the place for us. This may have been the case if we could actually have left the van to check if the surf was good, but unfortunately we were unable to leave the van for anything..... except food! and believe me cooking in a trangere stove in the pouring rain with only the van boot for shade is an experience not to be missed!! We have been tryng to use the vans cooking "facilities" as much as possible, due to financial reasons, this has resulted in our basic diet consisting fried bread, beans and the occasional fried egg! yummy!! adn its all fried in butter, i dont have a problem with this at all, but Nic recons its unhealthy, im the food scientist and im sure its grand!! Besides all this Byron bay was really nice and would be much better if it wasnt raining. There were countless people in the surf, in all weather conditions, we just weren't prepared to embrace the cold without a wetsuit.

After Nic had a crying fit about the state of our imaculatly clean campervan we decided that the best thing to do for all was to check into a motel for the night. This i have been since told has saved our relationship, a bargain at $65 i reckon..... Our next stop was Harvey Bay about another 400 kms north. Here the weather seemed to brighten up a little, though still quite cold. Harvey bay is a beautiful small Austrialian seaside town, quite similar to countless other towns on this coast. However, Harvey Bay is used by travellers a gateway to Fraiser Island, amd this was the reason for our visit. We took a day trip to Fraiser Island, which we almost needed a morgage to pay for, but im glad to say it was worth it. This island is know as one of the largest sand islands in the world and is famous for its rainforest, lakes and beaches, and we were not dissappointed. On this beautiful island it is possible to walk from a rainforest full of wildlife, to a long white powder sand beach, in a matter of minutes. The island is also home to several packs of Dingos, and we were lucky enough to see one, but unfortunatly it wasnt eating a small child at the time! The trip also took in a 75 mile beach, yes 75 miles long, white sand, amazing. Also there was a shipwreck on the beach which was good to see...all by a rather bumpy 4wheel drive. It was overall just a really beatiful place with some stunning sights. Along the road we've been playing Oz animal bingo and im pleased to say we have managed to see wombats and we even had a rather frisky possum hanging out round the camp site. No Kangeroos yet and we're hoping our first encounter isn't in to the windscreen! Well the sun is out and spirits are revived so onward we go, love to you all, Kyle and Nic x x
