We completed the last leg of our Florida journey, driving up the Gulf of Mexico during the last 3 weeks of December, stopping at Punta Gorda, Port Richey, Carrabelle, Mexico Beach and Milton. This part of Florida has been more of a relaxing time, as we enjoyed the above-normal temperatures, most days in the 70’s and 80’sF (20-30C). Each area had something different to offer, from miles of pure, white powdery beaches, to an abundance of cheap golf courses, to long bike rides along small island roadways. Christmas was quiet this year, which was a little different, but we managed to still cook a small turkey, went for a bike ride, and golfed unlimited for $8.00!

Our last Florida destination ended up being a complete surprise. We never know what kind of campground/RV Park we will end up in. Although most have websites, pictures can be very deceiving (and usually not to our benefit). After winding our way 25 kms inland, along small roads and quiet countryside, we wondered where the heck we were going. We always worry when we get caught on small roads with the motorhome, especially if they peter down to nothing, which this looked like it very well might do. But our destination was at the very end – Adventures Unlimited near Pensacola, Florida, which was an eco-adventure campground. The most surprising thing is we were the only ones using the campground, so had it to ourselves! It was situated in a large forest, with a mix of magnolia, pine and acorn trees. They offered several zipline tours, canoe, kayak and tube rentals, hiking and biking trails, and rustic cabins situated along a very scenic creek. All cabins were equipped with porch swings, rocking chairs, hammocks swinging from trees, firepits, but still good kitchen amenities. There was also an old schoolhouse with 7 theme bedrooms depicting American authors. We were almost tempted to ditch the motorhome and try one out! We decided to spend the next day kayaking down the creek, about a 10 km ride. It was a great day with a wonderful, lazy paddle for about 2.5 hours. Unfortunately no pictures, as I didn’t want to take the chance of having my camera take a wet spill if I should capsize.

All in all, Florida was great - I think my favourite thing was laying on the white beaches along the Panhandle. Gerry's? - probably the cheap golf!

Come home!!
Gerry and Marcy, What wonderful travels you've had, but now we think it's time you get back to Happy Trails! :) You're needed on the tennis courts! We are in WY, but will return Jan 15 in time for the Wed "Racqueteers" play. Hopefully you will be back by then, also. If not, we're sending out a posy:) Safe travels, Jim and Flo

Love those sandy beaches!
Oh, those long white beaches look amazing! How wonderful. Guess you are nearing Happy Trails as I write. Sorry to say that it doesn't look as if Rick and I will make it this year - but we have had an enquiry for next year so all is not lost! Look forward to seeing you on the Island during the summer. Much love from us both.
