Hello everyone and merry Christmas!
Last time we were leaving Hanoi to go to Ninh Binh.
Ninh Binh is like Ha Long Bay but on earth. The town in itself doesn’t have a lot to offer but all around there are beautiful things to see. So we rented some bicycles and drove around. There are temples to see, lovely cruises to do on the river where they drive the boat with their feet (which is quite funny to look at!), there is a nice small hill (with 460 stiff steps to arrive at the top!) to see a stunning point of view of the river. We saw a magnificent temple, the Bai Dinh Pagoda, which is still under construction, but which is already something to visit. This pagoda will be the biggest one in south East Asia once finished in 2015.
We had one bad experience when we were there. We refuse to pay an insane amount of money to park our bicycle, so when we came back, one of my tire was flat. We were 20 kilometres from your hotel and 20 kilometres with a flat tire was a long way home!
After Ninh Binh, we
took a sleeping bus to Hue, the imperial city. There we visited the old citadel which is a bit disappointed. The citadel was destroyed during the war and rebuilt after, but there is not a lot left. But this is still a nice place to visit. We walked along the river to admire some lovely boats with a dragon on the front. There is an interesting market in town. I felt in love with fabrics here: there are so many of them, so many colours… absolutely gorgeous.
We wanted to visit the tombs but the rain was against us! It kept raining a lot, and 30 kilometres in bicycles under the rain… didn’t really appeal to us!
We spent Christmas here: had a lovely meal on an almost fancy restaurant. That was quite good and we had a lovely evening to celebrate Christmas eve.
Tomorrow we’ll try to go to Kon Tum in the central highland of Vietnam. So I see you then!
Take care and have a lovely Christmas everyone!!!!
