Measuring Sustainability of Projects in Ghana: Pre-Departure

My name is Jenn Solomon and I am leaving for Ghana tomorrow night to volunteer for ELF. I have been volunteering with ELF for the past six months, and I cannot begin to describe how much my life has changed since I met Jaymie and started volunteering with her organization. Ever since I can remember I've wanted to travel. I wanted to see other parts of the world and learn about different cultures and ways of life. I always knew that there was a lack of education throughout the world, and I always wished there was a way I could do something about it. I have always told myself that one day I would try to make a difference and be a positive influence in someone else's life, and I believe ELF has given me the opportunity to do this. This organization stands for everything I believe in, and I cannot put in words how excited and motivated I am to be given this opportunity to travel to Ghana and help sustain the projects that ELF has implemented.

I've been out of the country before, but I have never been to Africa. I've been reading a lot about the region I am going to be living in and Ghana in general, but I feel like I am going to have to figure a lot of it out once I get there. Everyone asks me if I'm nervous or scared, but I'm not at all. I am so excited to go and ready to leave after months of planning this trip. I just can't believe I'm actually leaving tomorrow! I have never been given an opportunity like this and it is something I have always wanted to do. This next month will definitely be an adventure and a trip I will remember for the rest of my life. I love all of Jaymie's stories about her time spent in Ghana and I can't wait to have my own stories, pictures, and memories to bring back and share with my friends and family.
