We have had many anxious inquiries concerning our whereabouts during the “nor’easter” snow storm a few days ago. Amazingly enough, we missed the worst of it. We were in Halifax, and only received rain and big winds, so spent the day at the Maritimes Museum, oblivious to the havoc going on down the East coast. (Our last few days of travel have revealed snow in the ditches, and damage to trees and power lines, but it has been sunny and fairly warm, so was hard to picture 3 feet of snow and blizzard conditions a few days before.) We had a sunny but very windy day at Peggy’s Cove – almost got blown off the rocks at the lighthouse, and then the next day was very calm while we drove down the coast.
Touring New Brunswick & Nova Scotia was breathtaking; I couldn’t get enough pictures, making Gerry stop every 10 kms so I could jump out of the car and snap a few. So many little bays and inlets, quaint houses and harbours. We could have spent another month there, easily – especially Nova Scotia. Toured many museums, distilleries, and drove along the coastline for many miles. We caught
a tidal bore coming in along the Bay of Fundy. This is when the high tide surges through a narrow part of a river, creating a wave that goes against the current of a fresh water river, reversing the flow. This occurs twice a day, raising the level of the river up to 5 meters. Pretty cool!
Cooked lobster ourselves in the motorhome – or I should say Gerry did – I couldn’t watch him dunking the live lobster, so hid in the bedroom until they were cooked. Visited a few restaurants for fish and clam chowder.
We ended up leaving the Maritimes a little sooner than we had hoped, as evenings were getting too cold to camp, so didn’t make it to PEI 😞. Once again we were sorry to leave an area that had so much more to explore.
