Today Faye and Neil went to catch up with some friends so Trish and I headed to the coast. We headed off down the freeway towards Adelaide and took the Crafters exit, going via Blackwood, Eden Hills to Brighton on the coast.
The beach here stretches from Brighton right up to Semaphore , taking in Glenelg, West Beach, Henley Beach up to Largs Bay. What an amazing beach to have only minutes from the centre of Adelaide. The weather was warm and sunny so we had a few stops for walks on the beach as we travelled along the coast before stopping at Henley Beach for lunch at Zootz.
We then travelled to the top of the LeFevre Penninsular passing and stopping at Largs Bay where we saw Largs Hotel, a three storey sandstone building that to quote the papers of the time (about 1850 ish) stated " it was built for ocean going passengers from Europe to obtain their 'landlegs' before arriving in Adelaide. comprising three stories and 50 rooms each with a direct bell to the bar and having hot and cold running salt water" An incredible building to this day.

Trish & Jackie on beach...is it fair that a capital city should have beaches like this within 19Klm of the CBD...you bettcha !Adelaide to remind them all of the 2007 Grand Final result.....no no only joking ! It was fantastic to see that at last some value has been realised in all the old grain stores, shipping buildings etc and that many have been, and are being, restored. What a fantastic area this will be in another ten years, full of history and magnificent buildings. We then returned via Adelaide central where we noted that many cranes dotted the skyline with new building happening.
We stopped off at Rays Tent City to purchase a small dome tent for when we have to leave the van, and most importantly a Porta Loo. Yes, I can report that Trish is now Potty trained !!!...and, I am told I have to pay if I need to use it !!!
That night there was a coolish breeze so we retired to The Gronow establishment where we had Beef Rogan Josh and rice for dinner accompanied by a fine Rowanston Blanc De Noir and then a Rowanston Shiraz....thanks Fredo ! If anyone wants to meet the 'biggest' winemaker I know that produces quality wines and provides incredible hospitality, go to Rowanston on the Track Winery

Glenelg Waterfront Development at Glenhope, via Kyneton Victoria, mention my blog and I know Fredo will sort you out with a great deal ! This was our 'last supper' as the next day we would part company with our dear friends who had to return to Victoria, but Neil and Faye had achieved what they wanted....to escort us out of the state and make sure we kept going !!!

Largs Hotel sounds awesome! It must have been huge! Where did the ocean liners stop, was there a massive pier nearby? And what is with the hot and cold salt water? Ahh Port Adelaide, how they have suffered since 2007! Hehe! I hope you reminded them of their dismal performance this year as well? I knew it was only a matter of time before Mum got her way and got a porta potty! She told me that she will recoup the cost of it soon enough because she knows that you will use it! Great plug for Freddo and Rowanston! I've got a few bottles of his Riesling on my wine rack now! Might have to save them for after Busso though!
