We arrived yesterday morning at Delhi. We had already prebooked the Ajanta hotel in Parharganj before we came out. It worked out at £20 night. Hotel was clean, with air con, TV so was happy especially as it was sooo hot outside it was a nice relief. Having look around Delhi you can probably get a pretty decent room for around £10 a night but for our first two nights it was prefect. The hotel had sent a complimentary taxi to pick us up from the airport and we started to make our way to the hotel. Took around half an hour, and what a first experience of India it was. I had no seat belts in the back so already was nervous. No one stick to the dedicated lanes, they literally fill any available space they can. So a 3 lane road becomes 7 lanes, it manic. I was glad I was in the car as many people are on mopeds, bikes, tuk tuks. Cars are cutting each other up but no one minds and everyone just seems to miss everyone else. Only staying a couple of nights as heading back to Delhi end of October. We went to Shimla for 3 days then came back to Delhi to book our next trip which was to Varanasi. We had 2 days to spare so went and visited the India gate which looks just like the Arch de Triumph. It is a memorial for people who have died during battle. We have just discovered there is a hop on and hop off bus for Delhi so as our friend is coming to see us in Delhi in 4 weeks we thought we would save our sight seeing for then.

Two days ago we found ourselves back in Delhi once again, this time though we had two reasons to be back, firstly to watch Formula 1 and second our friend Clare was coming out to travel with us for 18 days. Our friend Darren was flying in to watch the F1 which was being hosted in Delhi, around 60km from the centre where we were staying. He had some spare tickets for the Friday practise so said we could have them for free however on his way over to see us in Delhi he got pick pocketed on the tube, only lost around £30 but he also had

our ticket too. However Terry had caught Delhi belly so was in bed for two days so we could not of gone anyway. On the Saturday, 29th I had to go meet Clare myself as Terry was in no fit state. I decided to catch the metro as it was only 5 min walk from our hotel and have used it before. They had an express service to the airport which cost approx £1, 80 rupees, no one was on it and only took 15min. Clare landed on time and stepped out of the airport to meet me. I was standing with around 200 Indian men and Clare said all she could see was hundreds of faces so I had to scream and wave for her to see me. We made our way on the metro back to the hotel. She had packed way too much stuff for backpacking she looked in pain, I hope she will be able to cope as the temperatures are still mid 30's so very hot.
That evening we had to book our train journey. We had to wait for Clare to arrive to do this as the trains were fully booked so we needed her passport to be able to book under tourist quota. Our hotel in Delhi was up to the usual Delhi standard, clean till you look closer and over priced, Clare seemed happy with it though, I think she was expecting a lot worse from what I had told her.
The next day we did the hop on and hop off bus around Delhi. This cost 300rs each (£4) and we were able to see the major sites. We jumped off at the Red Fort, India Gate, the memorial where Gandhi's was cremated, Humayan tomb, lotus temple and finally a huge shopping mall. The mall Took all day but was good fun.
