Most parents have a natural bias toward their own offspring. Since it is expected that a father provide “for his own, and specially his own household” (1 Timothy 5:8), it is no wonder that he would also take particular interest in their development. Joy and I are very pleased with the service our children are striving to render toward others.

This past Saturday, Ed and Lina Crookshank hosted a youth gathering at their home. Young people from many congregations came to participate. There was a table prepared in the driveway where those arriving could sign the register. However, after the program had started, a truckload arrived and these attendees likely did not get their names recorded. The attendance was about 130 young men and women.

Once it was time to begin, everyone took a seat on the lawn in the yard; guys sat in one group and the gals sat together. There was some singing in Chichewa, and then one local youth gave a brief lesson. After some more singing, Jacob gave a lesson to the whole crowd. He challenged them to look to the future, and include God in their plans. Among his many verses, he included James

4:13ff. One of the youth translated for him.

Lunch was prepared over open fires on the ground. The menu included nsema (called “ugali” in Tanzania; a mush-like dish prepared with corn flour and water), a meat stew, and cabbage.

One other young man spoke following the meal. Then the guys and girls separated. Luke spoke to the young men and Lindsey spoke to the ladies. Luke’s lesson focused upon the points of 1 Timothy 4:12. Lindsey told me her lesson stressed commitment and dedication to the church, and the need for modesty and purity. I did not get to hear Luke’s lesson, since I had to leave to teach the Personal Evangelism class which began some distance away that same afternoon.

Once their program ended there was a long session of picture taking. There were group pictures taken. But then one by one many gals wanted to have their picture taken with Lindsey.

We are prayerful that the day was one that will make a difference in stimulating many of these young people to become more dedicated in their spiritual journey. Sadly, many of them are rarely seen at worship. Parents generally do nearly nothing to teach their children God's word, nor even bring them to worship.

"Bias"
Your natural "bias" is legitimate. Your children are precious and are a credit to the training you and Joy are providing and to the grace and strength and opportunity our ever-loving and omnipotent Father is providing. They are a blessing to you, to those who know them, and to the Kingdom! Thanks for sharing their efforts! You all continue to be in my prayers--by name...
