Seems ages since the last message here.
Sorry to hear about the storm in New Plymouth! We saw on the news that snow fell on Wellington - what's going on there? Well done Nicole with your projects! You certainly are a great all-rounder Ryan - there's not too many chaps who play rugby and chess - brains and strength WOW!
How was the music fest Russell & Timothy? What was your disguise? Also how was the gig?
Now, where were we travell-wise? The Cosmos tour is over and we have been spending a few days on our own in Halifax. It's been great to sleep in!!! The staff here at the Lord Nelson are great - they don't rush us and they speak English! The sea food is great - had a whole lobster each the other night at a place over the road called "Your Father's Moustache". The harbour abounds with all kinds of sea craft - its great to just sit and look. Last Sunday we went to St, David's Presbyterian Church down the road. Met a lovely couple - actually met a lot of neat people. Old church with lovely stained glass window (felt quite at home - restoration going on there too). I asked for information to get to the Expo grounds (we had tickets for the RCMP Musical Ride that afternoon) Margaret and Dave took us to their home for lunch then drove us to the Expo grounds! The show was great - even better than I remember it from the Calgary days. Took lots of pictures of course. We've heard lots about the Halifax explosion and the retrieval of the Titanic survivors and the dead. The buildings here are mostly very old - way back in the late 1700s - brick, stone, wood - lots of character. Very quaint, lots quite close together. Ron and I could live here very happily in the summer. We have been to Peggy's Cove once already - super spot with lots of photographic possibilities - Ron and I could have just strolled around for a lot longer. We are blessed to be able to return on our next tour which starts tomorrow night. The train trip from Montreal to Halifax was quite the experience. Firstly, the cabin - quite small but our own little space. Bunk beds folded down. Surprisingly we slept. Meals were pretty good - lobster in a bread roll for lunch, Ron had his full English Breakfast (no black pudding or baked beans thank goodness!). We watched the scenery flash by sometimes, other times the train just crept along waiting on a siding for another train to pass going the other way. We stopped at lots of stations to drop off and pick up, so it was certainly the "slow train to Halifax" 23 hours to be exact. Pier 21 was significant - immigration clearance hall. Lots of memorabelia, lots of stories, lots of static displays and a very moving set of vignettes - people had come to Canada from all over the world especially Europe seeking safety. Some of the stories were not so becoming to Canada but most showed the humaitarian side of the country.
We are both in very good health and send our love to you all.
