My first visit to Vancouver was back in 2004 and at the time I felt in love with the place. So why today, do I have a very different feeling?

Is it the after shock effect of the Olympics? Maybe...

Back then, I mean in 2004, downtown was in full swing to get ready for the big winter event...so what about today.

Vancouver, specially downtown has turned into a beautiful collection of luxury appartments. It's like if the city is a brand new affair built on ruins long disappeared. It's beautiful, I admit it, but where is the soul of the place? I simply couldn't find it anymore. We walked a lot and couldn't see children around, they were close to none. This place has turned into the hedonist of the young adult....

It must be my european side. I admit I see something beautiful, but at the same time I feel lost trying to find his soul. In a big city, I need to find some mess, and some architectural wonders to be happy...not here...Vancouver has turned into a big resort for the wealthy.

But let's be honest. This bring some advantages too! We had wonderful meals here. Lunch was at Kintaro slurping ramens with Asian students. Dinner was Japanese again, and a great time thanks to Scott and Kristi. I first met them in Bangkok at the begining of their big trip....tonight it was them to host us in their home city. Great to see you again guys, and great restaurant choice.

We also spent a great time during the afternoon cycling Stanley Park. Wow, this place is just amazing. Vancouver may have lost a soul, it's still a great place to have your little crib. You could be walking in a wonderful park 5 minutes from you flat, and your office is 5 minutes walk in the opposite direction. But you don't only have the park, you've got the beach too, right in town! And yes, Leslie and Tiffany enjoyed riding the Sea Wall in Stanley Park, they enjoyed spending time on the beach, right in the middle of town.

So Vancouver, great or not great? Good question, if you want great food, you have it. You want to be 5 minutes from great outdoors, done! You want beautiful, luxury flats with amazing views, done. So why am I complaining...simply because one Singapore is enough....

Next entry, we are heading North! Coming soon...
