Welcome to New Brunswick, land of the winding narrow roads, roadside blueberry markets and lapping waves on rocky outcrops.

We left Quebec and headed on to New Brunswick, which is where we are still. We have been staying with my Auntie Brenda just outside Saint John in the lovely little town L’etete. The house is directly on the water and we get to see the tides come in and out from the big back deck. There are 2 little beaches right off the back of the property, where a friend of the family’s went and picked us fresh scallops for dinner the night we arrived. He just suited up in a dry suit, put on a tank of air and spent an hour gathering scallops and interesting sea life for us to look at. He brought up a couple urchins, some hermit crabs, a few sand dollars and some snails. It was amazing to see all that come out of the water just a few feet off shore.

We have been here for just under a week and have been enjoying the down time. When we arrived Brenda insisted that we stay on for a whole week until her family BBQ this Saturday. Her son TJ has been our tour guide and has done an excellent job! He took us through some of the small side roads to see beautiful coast lines and toured us around Deer Island, a short ferry ride away from the house. He even found us a beautiful bald eagle just off from the light house to photograph.

We have done some sightseeing on our own of the surrounding towns. St. Andrew by the sea is a great little tourist town with lots of shops and cafés. This town is also home to the Algonquin hotel, another of the Fairmont line; it’s very different to most of the other castle like hotels but is stately and beautiful nonetheless. We also popped in to Saint John and checked out the harbour where a cruise ship was docking and enjoyed looking around the New Brunswick Museum. The only trouble we had in Saint John was nearly being the wrong height for the shopping mall’s parking garage. The sign said 6’6 and I think in some spots we had less than half an inch clearance, if that. It was a tight squeeze, and now we know that
scuba steve!scuba steve!scuba steve!

I mean, Diving David.
we cannot park in anything shorter than 6’6 for sure!!!

Aside from finally taking a day to sleep in and just laze about there hasn’t been much going on, although BJ did manage to get sun stroke while we were touring Deer Island, he was quite sick and ended up spending the whole next day in bed. Thank goodness for being at Brenda’s, it would’ve been awful to be that sick stuck in a hot tent at a campground!

Since we left on this trip we have been busy almost every day, either sightseeing or driving, so just having days to sit and relax has been great! Tomorrow we will be super busy with the BBQ, hopefully going on a boat to see some whales and enjoy the time with friends and family.

Until we post again, Happy Travels!

Erin & BJ
