Lucky Buddha
me and the lucky buddha (or something like that) I arrived in Bangkok two nights ago at 1am....with all intentions of going right to bed and getting an early start the next day. But the thing is that when you pull into Bangkok (specifically KoahSan Road sp?) you get sucked into the energy, the lights, the madness (but not the lady boys). Bangkok has tons and tons of energy...I am really having a good time here, much better then I thought. Everyone had warned me that Bangkok is just another big messy Asian city...but I have a totally different picture.
So while I was on the 10 hour boat/bus ride from Koh Tao to Bangkok I met and English blok named Chris. He was a Bangkok pro and so I kind of buddied up with him. We ended up getting a room together and then hitting the town (it is crazy how relationships (I use that term loosely) are really accelerated on the road...I mean here is some guy that I talked for a few hours on the bus, and now we are sharing a room...but the thing is, that is completely normal behavior...weird). For all the crazy stories you hear about Bangkok you would think it is one
of those "cities that never sleeps", but actually everything closes at 12 or 1am (depending on when the cops come bye) but then the "secret" underground bars open up (good thing I met this Chris guy). So we didn’t end up going out until almost 2 and had to sneak into this bar through some back ally...the guy working the door was pretending to water the street (???), and after cutting through the back of a restaurant, going through some heavy black curtains, we get to the bar (just a normal bar with pool tables and some football on the tellie). Even though the bar was nothing special, having to sneak around and what not made it a lot more fun...I felt like a little highschooler again. We even had to wait until the "coast was clear" before we could leave.
The next day I went on a short tour and saw some temples/Buddha’s etc. Apparently after the tsunami the government is making a real effort to ease tourism throughout the country (which is really good for us) so they have sponsored these tuk-tuks (motorcycles that pull around carriages that you sit in...basically taxis). And for 50 cents a
Thai Boxing
crazy thai fighting (basically no rules) guy will take you all around the city and basically be your personal tour guide. Each place he takes you to will have another "government official" that will explain where you are, give you some history, and things of that sort. So anyways long story short, I got to go into all these temples that I wouldn’t have know about, did a little Buddha bowing, lit some candles, heard lots of stories...good times.
I'm tired and hungry...time to go..next time I'll have more interesting blogs.
(ps. the Thai new year is coming up soon, they have some crazy street party where everyone gets water guns, hoses, buckets of water and just goes crazy!!! that should be good)
